Another couple posts about bagels, vegetables, and something else...
Bill volunteered to do an interview over the past week. I'm still working on getting that one online. I'll let you know as soon as it's up!
EDIT: Also looked up the location analytics from google to see where traffic was coming from. It's pretty wide spread around the globe--most of the hits are coming from Pennsylvania (Me and Tammy, I guess) and Ontario (I'm wondering if Fred visits my blog that much or if there's another HFIer in the area).
Other regions that are popping up: Mexico, Panama, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates.
In Canada, the only two regions that are highlighted are Ontario and British Columbia.
In the US: California, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Arkansas, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, and Georgia.
I'll probably do a proper write up in the blog about regions later when I have more data.

Colormist, thanks so much for posting the link to your pinterest HFI safe foods, soooo helpful! I wanted to try the oyster cracker mix for my daughter. Would the hidden valley ranch dressing mix be safe? I always question things that may have added garlic powder or onion powder for spices. I did not have a chance to check out the ingredients on the dressing mix yet.

Panama - that's probably just me. We have retired to Panama and live here 2/3 of the year, visiting the US [Texas or Boston] 3 times a year. So, most of my emails originate from Panama.

I had no idea everyone was from all over the place (aside from those of you with your location in your profile). I'm glad you guys like the blog. Jennifer, YES! Hidden valley ranch dip mix is what I use. Check the label just to make sure as ingredients vary from region to region. I tend to do okay with garlic and onion powder. Just don't let her eat all of it (give her a normal portion size for her age). Maybe just give her a couple pieces until you can gauge if there's a reaction.

I'm getting followers to my HFI blog just about daily now. I'm trying to write a bit more regularly, but I feel like I'm running out of ideas. I wish I had a real kitchen so I could actually start cooking again. If anybody has any recipes (with photos) they'd like to share, I'd love to put them on the blog.
It's neat to see the sudden influx of subscribers. I'm not sure if they're all HFI or if they're just mostly DFI, but either way I'm glad the message is spreading.
EDIT: I opened up the analytics again on the blog and I'm wondering if the location demographics might prove to be a bit more revealing that expected. Again, the US is still the highest, but Canada pulls a close second. I wonder if these hits could factor into prevalence, awareness, or even doctor's tendency toward HFI diagnosis.
As before we thought the region of origin was northern European, but I'm wondering if this data might be more telling over time. There are very few hits in Europe. 80% of all hits are from North America. Europe only accounts for 9% (6% of that being from Northern Europe).

I am always making updates to that pinterest board. Whenever I find a recipe that sounds yummy, I add it to the board (with substitution/omission suggestions). I also have another board (which you guys might have discovered) of recipes that I think MIGHT be yummy if they were fructose-free. I wasn't sure if I should share it, but then I figured I was just being a selfish jerk and will probably never get around to checking out ALL of these recipes. So here's the link if you're interested in some creative adjustments to interesting recipes: pinterest.com/colormist/recipes-that-might-be-good-fructose-free/

I've been getting messages at my blog and I try to make all responses public (I tried to edit your message, flanagan, but it wouldn't let me). I haven't really been updating your guys as regularly as I post. Today I wrote about cooking and later today (or tomorrow) will be about children (particularly Bill's recent passion).
I watched an episode of Law & Order: SVU and it really upset me.
Sometimes I feel like I'm repeating myself on my blog, but I'm too lazy to look up the back issues.
Also still waiting on bios from Julie and Bill. If anyone else (who has confirmed DX of HFI or takes care of a child with confirmed DX of HFI) would like to share their story, please send me a note!

Colormist - Don't worry about the edit,... I should learn to type slower and proof read my own work. I am too reliant on my mac, which auto-corrects my typing everywhere. When I'm on a windows machine I forget, and sound like I am still in grade school. Please continue the blog; I am an avid reader of it. My life is in transition now, due to the diagnosis, but when I'm more settled I'd be happy to give an interview.

Cool! I'd love to post your story, Flanagan! Also, I keep getting questions on my blog (usually for things I have no knowledge about, like lactose+fructose intolerance) and I keep redirecting people here. It's like my blog is one big advertisement for this forum.

I've made a huge mistake. I picked up a Slimcado (Florida Avocado) at my local grocery. It was my first time seeing them in stores and I was insanely excited to have another kind of avocado to eat. I had heard that they taste WAY better than the little black ones I usually use. I wrote a full story in my blog, but long story short, they have a crap-ton of fructose and hardly any flavor. The word Slim should have tipped me off. I know better than to eat any food claiming to be slim, lite, or reduced fat. They always have added fructose.

That's my job, Sheree! Just call me fructose-guinea pig. Also, most disappointing avocado experience ever.
