Well, I had my appointment today with a slew of people. I was impressed by the geneticist. He seemed to be on top of things and was good at explaining everything to me. They sent out blood work for the DNA testing, so I expect to hear back in 4 to 6 weeks on the results and whether or not I have HFI. They had me meet with the nutritionist with the presumption that I will carry on with an HFI diet. This discussion was a complete joke. I was shocked at how unprepared she was for our meeting. She handed me some food lists that contradicted a lot of the things I had read about. The lists (which she stood behind) said I can eat green peas and that I was not to eat any kind of nut or legume (such as peanuts). There were some other wacky things on there that I don't remember at the moment. I had very specific questions about whole wheat, wheat germ, soy, beans, etc, and she was not able to answer a single one of my questions. She did take notes and said she would look into it and get back to me. All my previous blood work checked out okay relating to my liver function, etc. As for the food list, I think green peas was a typo and was supposed to say green beans. All you HFI'ers eat nuts and peanuts, right? Almonds are one of my main snacks. I'm not a huge fan of peanuts, but I'll eat them in a pinch without problem. It's just so frustrating. If a nutritionist at one of the top research universities gives me bogus information, who on earth am I to use as a resource?

Welcome to the world of HFI. lol. Confusing, contradicting lists. If all your liver functions and all other blood work looks good, then I'd just stick with what you've been eating. It seems to work for you.
It's very good for you that at least you found a good Dr. So many times that isn't the case. As for the nutritionist, I don't think anyone has found a good one. I had a terrific one 20 yrs ago. She has long since retired, and I have no idea where she is now. Since this was pre-internet days, I just thank my lucky stars that she knew what she was doing. The lists she gave me back then are still basically the same lists that are on Dr. Tulans site.
And now you are to the wait and see point. But again, what you are doing must be what works for you.

Uh, yeah. My geneticist just blew off the whole "nutritionist" thing. He said I already knew everything that the nutritionist would tell me anyway, and that I probably knew MORE than they knew.
Peanuts are okay, in moderation. They tend to make me sick if I eat too many, but maybe that's just all the salt? Almonds are wonderful. I also like walnuts and pecans and brazils. I tend to avoid everything else nutty.
Do not eat peas. That HAD to be a typo.
Again, I'm going to repeat what my geneticist already said. You're old enough, you've already tried almost everything. I'm sure you already know what's safe and what isn't. If in doubt, check Dr. Tulan's site.
