I recently (spring 2010) got stuck for 24 hours in Bangkok Thailand.
The one place I really did not want to get stuck in.. the plane broke down when attempting take off.
We were put up in a very nice 5 star Hotel.. and all was excellent service considering the Plane was the last flight out that night and all the airport staff had gone home, and had to be called back into work..
However the food was really not good..
If it had not been for the British Airways staff who allowed me to take a big bag of cheese and celery off the plane I would have been in real trouble..
EVERYTHING has added sugar or fruit juice evan plain boiled rice!
The amount I could eat from the food available in the Hotel was less than 500 calories I would estimate from 4 meals!
When the plane took off again I really did not want to see another piece of cheese for a long time!
In the airport food shops only one of a choice of 5 types of fresh milk had no added sugar!
I wonder what the rate of Diabetes is in Thailand?
Any other places to avoid? how is Mexico I have never thought of going there because of the beans tomatoes and peppers which all Mexican food seems to be made from.

I tried to eat Thai food several times, Bill. Each time I'd ask them to leave off another ingredient and it was STILL sweet. I never ever want to go to Thailand. Mexican food is okay if you know what to avoid. They have a yellow rice with peppers that's yummy and a lot of their burritos have beans in them--you just have to watch out for tomatoes and onions. Peppers I eat around, but they don't bother me as much as onions. Japanese food seems pretty difficult to eat. I get plain white rice and sashimi or tataki. I really don't know what else to order. Most of it has some type of sweetener in it.
