Anyone have any information on Whey protein. My son isn't HFI but he was diagnosed with Fructose Malabsorption and our dietitian isn't real helpful/kind. I have been very frustrated trying to figure this all out on my own. A friend told me about this website, as she uses it for a lot of helpful information with her son. I could use all the help I can get. He is losing weight and I am trying to incorporate useful things into recipes for healthful/tasteful foods!

He had to be on antibiotics for the bacterial overgrowth. I am just trying things now as far as his diet. The major things that we have found for sure are whole wheat and tomatoes. The rest is still a learning process. He is just losing weight and I am worried about him not getting enough. I thought that if I could add some of the whey protein to things it might help with weight gain

He is starting to eat better with the rice and loves meats, though chicken nuggets were his favorite. Loves milk but has to be careful because of anemia in the past they think was caused from too much milk in the diet. He has gained 1.5 pounds within the last couple of days so Yay!! He is looking up. Just thought the Whey would be another source of nutrition.....

Hi, welcome to the board. Now you have a diagnosis you will find things should improve quite rapidly if it is the answer. Don't worry about a balanced diet as we know it, keep it simple and stick to things he likes that are safe. You will get mixed advice on the safe ingredient front from the medics, basically the less fructose that goes through his system the better in the early months, if you send me your email address by private message I will send you a good list we were given.
Don't rule out chicken nuggets, just do homemade ones,. mince some chicken fillet, then have three plates, one with cornflour or plain flour, one with beaten egg and one with breacrumbs. Pat a shape of mince chicken, then roll it in each plate in the order listed and then deep fry them. They are delicious, you can always add herbs and seasoning to the breadcrumbs.
My daughter megan had treatment for a bacterial overgrowth when she was four too but it proved not to be the full answer.
Don't hesitate to ask any questions you have and have a search through the recipes list when you have time.

Ya, the anemia was something that happened a few years ago. They said it was a combination of him not getting enough iron in the diet, veggies & meats, but because he drank milk and had lots of milk products with the iron fortified foods. The milk/products inhibit the iron from absorbing as well, so what he was getting in wasn't able to do its job..... that is all under control thankfully now!
