I have been almost fructose free for about a week or so now and I feel better but my urine sometimes now is darker and it was NEVER darker before this diet. Also my kidney hurt this morning and that doesn't usually happen too often. Last night I had 2 glasses of water with lemon and a ton of dextrose in it before I went to sleep. ..and I just had some lime water with dextrose in it and then my urine was a lot darker. I noticed my urine darker off and on now only this week on this diet.
Did any of you have this happen when you started getting rid of remaining fructose?

Yeah, when I have small amounts of fructose my urine is really dark and smells really sticky-sweet grossness. Your kidneys are doing their job. Keep drinking lots of water.

Thanks, It confuses me that it was never darker before when I was eating way more fructose but, now that I have stopped I am noticing it. Did you ever have darker urine before you went fructose free?

Evelyn, Why are you taking such high doses of glucose? Is there a specific reason for it? You need to be careful of your teeth Dextrose / Glucose will dissolve them very quickly! Surely plain water or milk is going to be far better for you than a massive dose of Glucose before going to sleep? Too much Glucose and you will risk giving yourself diabetes as well as HFI! Keep smiling.

Keep smiling. Thanks UKbill I have since stopped eating so much dextrose. I was eating it because I was trying to keep my blood sugar up at the start of the new diet but, I only eat it sparingly now. I didn't eat lots of dextrose for too long before stopping, maybe a few weeks but, am better now. I am lactose intolerant so I can't drink milk. I'm not sure if I am HFI or not but, am looking into genetic testing. Thanks!

About 3 -4 hours after I have eaten something I bad for me, my urine turns green for a while. By the end of the day, it seems to go back to normal. So I understand about the urine thing.

Ok the think about dieting is you have to go low blood sugar to persuade the body to convert body fat back into blood sugar. I'm assuming you are trying to loose weight not try a different food regime? There is no reason to be low in blood sugar on an HFI diet far from it because we eat Loads of Meat and fatty foods we have to keep an eye on not eating too much food and putting weight on. (although for a man its easier not being addicted to chocolate helps! I am sorry you are Lactose intolerant have you always been intolerant to lactose or is it a more recent thing? The reason I ask is I am suspicious that a person with undiagnosed HFI will have been giving their liver such a bad time for so long things start to go wrong and it stops working properly. The good news is if you are HFI then within a few months on a Fructose free diet you will find that your liver will "kick back in" and a lot of other "conditions" will disappear or at least that is what people are reporting. Hope it all works out for you Keep smiling

Just a word about Urine colour.. since reducing to almost nothing the foods I used to "cheat" on I have noticed my urine has become Bright and sparking and stopped foaming in the toilet bowl. So I'm assuming its because my body is not having to get rid of so many toxins. The only time its gone dark or very dark, almost to red wine colour, was when I was severely dehydrated and having problems finding pure water to drink. (my first visit to France). I have to say I drink a lot of fluid each day.. well in excess of 3 litres (5 pints) I seem to need a lot of fluids and get Hypo if I get dehydrated. Hope my 2 cents worth helps
