wow that was an interesting experience. Megs had a glucose challenge test on Tuesday, I thought they were doing the blood test version to see what was happening as I have repeatedly said she cannot cope with glucose or high glycemic foods. But no, it was to test for bacterial overgrowths with a breath test as she still gets alot of tummy pain.
So we went in on an empty stomach (except mean mummy got a mcDonalds breakfast on the way!!!!! and scoffed it in the car park!!!!). She had a mega dose of glucose solution than had to breath into a machine every 15 mins. well she arrived sensible, quiet and manageable, after half an hour she was hanging upside down off the bed, giggling and going cross eyed. Very unco-operative with the breathing and had to keep redoing it as she was trying to eat the tube and leaning against the nurse!!!!
I told the nurse this is what happens so she said better steer clear then. Anyway the test was negative so no bacterial problem but I leftwith what seemed a very drunk child. All the way home - an hours drive we had the equivalent of a 7 year olds version of pub songs. It was like driving someone home very drunk whilst you are stone cold sober. The singing was full volume all full of poo, fart, bum and wee. flailing about and threatening to open the car door and climb out. I think you might say that is a positive result of some sort.
I did ask the nurse in the hospital why they weren't checking her bloods and urine at the same time and she said they hadn't been told to and the consultant was away. What a waste of time.!!!!
Interestingly in the next bay was a 5 year old girl who was having a fructose challenge having been through very similar story to Megs and it was positive. I heard the nurse telling her that there was very little help or info available she would have to look it up on the internet. Oh never was a truer word said. Needless to say I gave the poor mother my email adress.
It took 4 hours for Megs to come down to earth and we had a return of all the old symptoms for 3 days.
