I haven't had a serious problem with chewing xylitol gum--but I haven't tried much more than what you'd get with a couple piece of gum a day.

I can't have Xylitol. Think it's made from corn as well.

Xylitol makes my son sick. After reading and trying to figure to find a pattern in HFI tolerences, you can carve this in stone. It may be fine for you but it may make the next person really sick.

I had Xylitol as part of my chalenge test. 3 times! It gave me on each a occasion really bad time.. not to go into too much detail.. but I used an awful lot of loo paper each time I was tested with it and sat down very carefully the next day! I would avoid it if I were you. We have to all realise with HFi there are some things just not possible for us. I understand as a carer for an HFI or potential HFI that you want to make things as "Normal" as possible.. However for HFI there are some food groups that are just simply closed to us. Its best not to keep worrying about what we cannot eat .. and concentrate on what we can eat! Forget sugars and stuff like that and get interested in finding and cooking what we can eat.. and the menu is truly MASSIVE! There are few recipes for any meals we cannot adjust to be both HFI friendly and really dam good food too! Nearly all the best cuisine from around the world is available to us, so what if we cannot eat cookies? Big Deal. There are lots of alternatives to pack a lunch box with. Just get your recipe books out, open your cupboards, open your mind and have a go! Rant over I'll go and have a rest now . No actually I feel the need for a good bacon butty! PS I'm not aiming this at anyone in personally so please don't take it that way. I know how hard it is to feed someone with food intolerances can be.. and yes its harder for the person doing the caring than the person being cared for. What I'm really trying to say is think positivity, act positivity! For us with HFI Sugar is negative.
