I'm a Celiac and I think I have a fructose intolerance. I am incredibly sensitive in the morning and I am wondering if this is common with a fructose problem?
I eat wild salmon, eggs, leafy greens, but mostly just mizuna(leafy green), oranges in the evening and sometimes blueberries. Lots of salt, and plain salted nacho chips but, these seem to effect me if I eat them too early. This is all I can tolerate and I actually have a problem with the fruit and the nachos but am still eating it.
I am confused as to why I am more sensitive to fruit in the morning rather than in the evening?
I get hypoglycemic and crave sugar and peanut butter and eggs..do any of you crave these things or did you when you were still eating fructose?
Thanks Ev

Hi Evelyn My daughter has HFI. She can NOT eat ANY fruit at any time of the day. If fruit doesn't bother you in the evenings, then you do NOT have HFI.
I don't know a lot about DFI, so I can't answer questions on that, but I don't remember anyone only having a problem in the morning there, either. They could either have something, or not.
Maybe you should keep looking for answers.

An apple anytime of day no matter how much will make me very sick right away or a potato ..etc. I only eat oranges or blueberries to keep the hypoglycemia away but, it may be causing it because when I eat it to get my sugars up, I have to keep eating more but, I don't want to because it makes me feel out of it. I also get these rings on my tongue that I just recently realized are being caused by fruit. Is this something you have ever noticed on your daughter?

Hi Evelyn Have you talked to your doctor about the hypoglycemia? If not you should. You also mentioned eating a lot of salt. Does that help you? If you had HFI and ate an orange, you would be very sick to your stomach and would become hypoglycemic from the fructose. As far as withdrawl symptoms from stopping fructose, all I can tell you is that when I stopped (and I was only getting it from bread) the result was total relief. I had never felt better. Fred Hi Fred, Thanks! I have talked to my doctor about the hypoglycemia. Yes the salt does help me alot! BUT.. funny, actually because when I didn't have any fruit the other day for most of the day, I felt great all my bad symptoms were gone and I didn't have to sleep but, also, I realized at the end of the day that I didn't need salt for that part of the day when I usually crave it bad so maybe it has some relation to fructose. As far as hypoglycemic when I eat oranges, what happens in the morning is with just a few pieces, major hypoglycemia, headache and flashing lights, tremendously nauseous and sick and can't think straight barely at all, off balance and the need to sleep, this is if I eat it within about 2 hours after waking. If ingested after that, the symptoms gradually decrease as the day goes on but never go away totally. If I eat a whole orange in the evening, I don't get sick to my stomach like earlier but, I crave sugar after real bad and I don't know what to do about it. What I usually do is eat more oranges because I am scared of using sugar and of course more oranges only makes it worse. I should be using dextrose for any low blood sugar problems. Is it possible to have HFI if you only experience the hypoglycemia from ingesting an orange and not being sick to you stomach? An apple would bring me sick to my stomach any time of day but an orange only does that in the mornings.

Hi Evelyn First off, Rockets are made in Canada in Newmarket, Ontario. In the US they are called Smarties. They don't have the same smarties as what we have in Canada. Their M&M's are very similar to our Smarties. You can buy Pixie Stix and Rockets at the Dollarama stores and most other dollar stores. They both contain only glucose as a sweetener. Second, you should talk to your doctor about the salt cravings as this can be an indication of other problems that can affect your blood sugar levels. So, if you haven't told him about this you should. Go to the drugstore and buy yourself some Glucose wafers (they are actually large tablets) and carry them around with you all the time, Rockets will also work. When you feel hypoglycemic, (tired, weak, shaky, cold sweat, disoriented etc.) chew one or two and see if it helps. But the important thing is to make sure your doctor knows about all of your symptoms. Hope this helps. Fred Thanks Fred! I will tell my doc about the salt cravings.
