Hi everyone,
It looks like our daughter suffers from HFI, her dad was diagnosed diabetic type 1 at the age of 26. We are very interested in the story of parents with type 1 diabetes, especially when it became apparent and if there is any relation with HFI.
We found some other stories about HFI diagnosed children having a parent with type one diabetes. We are curious because the frequencies of these diseases are low which makes it unlikely that it is just a coincidence.

Interesting. I haven't heard of that connection.
From my own personal experience, neither of my parents have Type 1 diabetes or any kinds of problems with their blood sugar that we know of.
I'm glad you found the board, and I hope you can find lots of information here! Has you daughter been tested for HFI?

My mom and dad are borderline diabetic, but that's just because they're both overweight and don't eat a balanced diet or exercise for that matter. I don't know what type that is, but I don't think it would be related. I don't think there's anyone else in the extended family that has diabetes of any variety. That's not to say that the genes might not sometimes come in pairs or the carriers of the genes be more frequently diabetic (than not). We're always learning new things about HFI, so it wouldn't surprise me if they were somehow related.

My daughter is HFI and there is no diabetes in either family anywhere.
With all the people that have come and gone on this site, I don't remember anyone that had that connection. Doesn't mean it's not connected, but I would say it's not the normal. Then again, what is normal with HFI'ers?
I would be interested in where you found the stories on the other HFI children.
Welcome to this site.

I have HFI but neither of my parents have diabetes. My grandfather and grandmother got diabetes when they got old, but I'm guessing that's not type 1? So, no connection to diabetes for me either.

olivias dad and his sister are both diabetic type 1 (insulin dependent) this is so interesting I have always wondered about this I know it it a different enzyme problem, but I wonder if it could be related somehow. Olivia was diagnosed with HFI by a DNA blood test. Her dad was diagnosed at age 18 with DM and his sister was diagnosed at age 8 with DM(diabetes mellitas)
