My daughter has been diagnosed with fructose malabsorption via breath test, two years in a row. She cant tolerate ANY sugars in fact. She has had a g-tube for 2 yrs as well. She is 5.
When she eats fructose she is IRRITABLE, loose stools, reflux and the weirdest symptom..... urinary issues. More frequent and accidents. Is this part of it??
My ? is.. could she have HFI? Our GI thinks she would be VERY ill by now if this was HFI and says its only DFI. She has never been tested.

Sarah,
My boys and I have similar symptoms - reflux, major irritability, urinary issues, back pain, joint pain, heart palpitations, POTS etc. My 4 year old and I had a positive fructose breath test, but my blood work showed that there was more going on than just malabsorption. Cal didn't have the blood work done during his test.
I have a diagnosis of fructose 1,6 diphosphatase deficiency, but we are not certain that is the correct diagnosis. The diet for FDPase deficiency works, though, so that is likely the issue.
I highly recommend getting a definitive answer. If your child has FDPase deficiency, the diet is low fat/protein and high carb - without fructose and sucrose. So, knowing might help with getting your child onto solid food.
Best of luck. Feel free to join the community and send us a personal message if you need anything.
