It's only taken me 33 years, lol. I had an all-day meeting for work at a remote site which included a "working lunch." These things always make me nervous. Normally I just wing it and hope like heck there is something I can eat, and pack a few snacks just in case. This time I called the admin arranging the food ahead of time, discussed my limitations, and we found something on the menu that would work for me. When lunch came around, everyone dove into the food and there was a little bag off to the side with my name on it. Yay! My fructose-free meal, reserved and ready for me! Why hadn't I been doing this before? It was so easy! And discreet enough where people never even noticed that I was eating something slightly different. From now on I'm going to vow to be better at speaking up!!
