Hey everyone, sorry I haven't been around much lately, but so much has been going on. Hunter has been doing fairly weel so far this school year. We've only had 1 hospital stay so far since school started. Seems another little boy in his class came to school sick and with Hunter's immune system being so bad, he caught it and couldn't fight it off. We spent some time in the hospital getting lots of fluids and he now he seems to be doing a lot better. Food trials with him have come to a halt. He's just like any other 8 year old and can be pretty stubborn at times. We're back to just chicken nuggets and french fries, but at least he's eating that. Kristen has suggested I also let yall know what else is going on, this time with me, not Hunter. I've been sick for about 2 weeks now, and in a nutshell got some pretty disturbing news from the doctor. I'll be going for a CT scan on Thursday morning. The doctor has found a bad spot on my left lung that doesnt look good. So, along with dealing with all the issues that go along with having a sick child, now I have to throw myself in to that mix. I guess I'm hoping things come out ok and wondering how to deal with them if they dont. Well, thats the latest with us........I'll try to be better with keeping yall updated.

Laurie, We'll be praying for ya over here as well. Crossing my fingers that it is "nothing" or at least easily remedied. Lisa

Hi Laurie,
I hesitated whether or not to post this after reading your message, because I haven't been a member long and you don't know me from Adam! (English phrase, hope it translates!) But I wanted you to know that I am really sorry that you are going through such a difficult time, and that I too am praying for you, for strength and healing. I bet everyone that read your post is thinking of you and wishing you well, it's just sometimes hard to know whether its appropriate to make a reply or not. Will be thinking of you Thursday. Laurie, Just wanted to let you know we'll be thinking of you and your tests on Thursday. Hopefully it's nothing, and things will get back to normal.
I know what it's like to worry about these kids when you're sick yourself. It's hard. In '94 I had breast cancer. Went through chemo and radiation. Spent almost a year barely getting off the couch. I had great family support. That is a very big help. For me and for my kids.
So I will be thinking of you, and I truely know how scary this can be. Tammy

Hey all, thanks for all the prayers......keep them coming cause I sure do need them!! The CT scan went ok other than the fact I had an allergic reaction to the dye they injected into the IV. I got the results from my doctor on Monday and it was news I really wasn't prepared for so it's taken me a while to swallow it. They still dont know if the spot on my left lung is cancer or not, but it's small and they will keep watching it. (re-do the CT scan in 3 months) What they have determined is that I have COPD and Emphysema. I see a lung specialist on Tuesday of next week to see what steps we take next.
As far as Hunter goes..........we are now trialing popcorn, so cross your fingers!! He had some stomach pains yesterday but is so determined to pass this trial he wont blame it on the popcorn, lol. (however mommy isn't an idiot!!) I figured I would let him go a few more days and once he gets ill enough he'll want to give it up.
I'll keep yall updated the best I can right now..........

Hi Laurie, I have been watching for your follow up post. It sounds like your news if okay?, not as bad as it may have been. I think the saying "when it rains, it pours" may be fitting. I am so sorry you are going through this. I hope your pulmonologist will be helpful with the "spot" and be able to determine the best course of action with their findings. I think the watching to see part can often be the hardest thing. Be as persistent with your own medical care as you are with Hunter's! My daughter has been trying popcorn on a very limited basis and she wants to tolerate it so much that she does the same as Hunter, blame it on everything but the popcorn... Thinking of you, alice

Hey all, quick update being as I'm up at 1:30 in the morning and things are quiet, haha Hunter seems to be coming thru this battle with the flu fairly good. He's continued to drink lots of water, has been eating a little popcorn and of course doing chicken nuggets. Looks like this is our first battle that will actually end without a hospital admission!!
As far as me........I saw the lung specialist and finally the whole truth came out!! It's not one spot in my lung, there's a total of three. They are in different locations, so that doesn't look good. The next CT scan is set for February 23 and this one will be done with no dye since I had such a bad reaction during the last one. I went and had my pulmonary function test done and loved the woman that gave me the test!! I dont have the results from the lung specialist, but she said in some areas my numbers looked "ok" but in others they didn't. She said my breathing did improve slightly after be given a breathing treatment. (they make you not do a treatment before you go, do the test, give you a treatment, then repeat the test) I was successful in not smoking for 3 weeks, then fell off the wagon so to speak when my soon to be ex-husband pulled a nasty stunt with me. My new quit date to try that again is set for January 1st and I'm determined to quit and make it permanent!!
Thanks for all the prayers........I truly hope all is well with everyone, and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!!

Laurie, That's so good to hear that Hunter didn't end up back in the hosp this time. Horay for him.
I certainly am praying for you, too. It's just not fair that you also have to deal with a jerk of an ex.
We're wishing a nice, uneventful christmas for you (and everyone).
And we got all our fingers and toes crossed for the no-smoking date of the first! Tammy
