Sorry folks, got to let off steam. The usual trials and tribulations of eating out. How hard can it be to get a safe meal out in this day and age of food education. We went to London yesterday to the O2 to see Dancing on Ice, real treat for Megs she has been looking forward to it ( and me) for months, Then starts (for me) the nagging worry of food. Especially now she is on wheat free too I start wondering what to do. My first instinct was eat at home before we go then make a picnic but it is so limited for what to put in it for her and she has the same old for school pack lunch anyway.
So..... I thought I'd be really organised, looked up the O2 (which is the failed millenium project of Great Britain) and it had load of restaurants in it, surely one would do a jacket potato and some plain meat (which is about all she seems to cope with out, even the fries here seem to be bad). Anyway, narrowed it down to 2 and rang them, couldn't guarantee any meats safe as all multicooked but potato fine so went with Garfunkels, explaining we were coming on Sunday 4.30 pm to eat, yes we can easily do that they said..... Arrived to find we had to wait for 50 minutes for table, didn't think to double check food again at that point but to cut a long story short finally got to sit to eat and guess what... sorry no jacket potatoes. Nothing, not one, or even a half. Trying to explain I had rung, even spoke to the manager (who was suitably embarrased), even megs tried explaining the situation which was the only funny bit about it all. she couldn't understand why Meg couldn't maybe have a plain salad - apart from the simple point that what 7 year old would anyway - NO VEG ALLOWED.
In the end she had 2 fried eggs, fried I hope in a clean pan ( not convinced on eggs anyway with meg) and she dipped her homemade sausage nibbles I had made for a snack. And then, they had the cheek to charge us £2.00 for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mum and I did have the chips and they tasted quite floury so problably coated in something. Glad we didn't risk it as she is still clearing from some dodgy rice which is a whole other matter.
Ready made rice, which is what I suspect the mother gave her when she ate at a friends, made by Uncle Bens has orange juice added to it...... WHY?? whoever, ever adds orange juice in any recipe to savoury plain rice, unfortunately she didn't read the label until I asked after 2 days of hell....
Right sorry folks, just had to vent, the dogs fed up with listening, moral of the tale, don't be lazy, pack up a picnic and lug it across London!!!!!!!
Dancing on ice was fabulous though, if it ever comes your way well worth a visit, wow!!!! To see the awe on Megs face was well worth the aggravation of getting there.
