I'm inanely stubborn. Sometimes my stubbornness is stubborn. I've noticed two particular forms of stubbornness when it comes to dinnertime with HFI:
"I'm sick and tired of eating the same old things. I'm going to eat this. I don't even care if I get sick!"
"I'm so tired of being sick! I don't even want to eat any more. I'm just going to eat the blandest, boring thing I can think of."
I go through cycles of these. The eating things that are bad for me lasts less than a month. Eating things that are incredibly boring tends to last 8 months.
As a side note, I tried my instant-grits-travel-food idea and it worked fabulously. But I did have to use the coffee maker to heat up the water and had to drink them, which was kind of gross, but at least I wasn't hungry!

Hi Laura, I don't think you should call it stubborn, its just being human, especially in this day and age of exciting varied, multi-cultural food with the eat healthily eat 5 a day (portions of fruit and veg) as is rammed down our throats in this country.
I must say, I don't know how you all do it. I get so bored cooking for Megs, same old, safe old day after day with no variation for a peaceful life. Mind you, I suppose it saves me having to rack my brains for variety and she doesn't seem to mind.
I like the innovative travel food idea, should think it was a bit messy too but if it does the trick!!!! Meg eats ready brek on the go cold for an instant fix but it does stick like glue if you don't clean it up quick

I'm in a serious dinner rut these days. It can be such a drag - being so limited on what is available. I HATE grocery shopping with a passion.
But at the same time, the monotony doesn't typically bother me. It comes and goes. But right now I'm really bored with my "usual" dinner items.

Hello!
I've found a few safe items at the store. Red Baron Pan Pasta dishes, the chicken alfredo is safe and Lily loves it!
I also found a s/f soft pretzel in the frozen foods section at Giant Eagle (our local grocery store)
Last but not least, the TGIFriday's mozzerella sticks are safe -- skip the sauce.
Hopefully, you can find these in your area. Please be sure to double-check labels. We were eating the Purely O's cereal forever -- until they changed it and added sugars that Lily could not eat.
Good luck!

Pepper and Cream, Garlic and Chili, Blue Cheese, Lemon with Lemon Butter, Garlic with Lemon Butter, Plain with Chili Butter.. the list is endless! Chicken, Boiled in Herbs (stock used elsewhere) shredded and stir-fried, Roast with Herb Butter, Garlic Butter, Chili Butter, Smoked bacon over the flesh, Soy sauce under the skin, Lemon Butter, Just salt and Black Pepper. Jointed, cooked in casserole with mushrooms and dumplings, Part Roasted in roasting tin rice added, stock added Mushrooms added cooed till rice adsorbs stock, Gammon, Boiled, Roasted chopped up and used in Gammon and cheese flan, in a flan with mushrooms.. Fish.. Lamb... Pork... Beef (again I like Beef!) I could go on for listing meals for absolute Hours! What are you going on about restricted Diet! I am not talking about buying this in a ready meal, this stuff its so easy a 5 year old can make it! Stop feeling sorry for yourselves and get a cookery book and say.. "no not adding that or that but the rest looks yummy I have a go!" Come on

I can't eat most spices...bay leaves and tarragon, I can't eat any milk products (except Lactaid), I can't eat any gluten products, I don't do well with red meats (pork, beef, lamb, veal, etc.), I can't eat any beans, and of course fruits and veges are totally off the table. So I can appreciate what Colormist is saying!
And yes, I have tried somethings and gotten sick, others, I have no desire to try....the thought just makes me sick.
I am struggling with travel foods and have just decided to go home and eat. That's the best thing I have come up with so far. Might try the plug in my car coffee cup and make grits in there (Thanks for the suggestion Colormist) but will have to try grits first. Right now, I am looking at trying polenta...only because we just got back from Mayo, no food defrosted until tomorrow and that's all that is available to me. I hope it works...I have a long day tomorrow!
(I fully believe, that in time as my body heals, I will be able to add more stuff into my diet. But for now, I really enjoy my soups with organic chicken, bay leaves, salt, white rice, and sea weed.)

I apologise if I seemed to come on a bit strong there.. I should have thought about people who are "On the Mend" and being Lactose intolerant as well as Fructose has got to suck! I would not eat Veal ever.. I know how its made and I value any animals life more than that. OK so I have to kill or have animals killed so I can survive, but I would not want an animal abused for all its short life so I can have something that tastes slightly different. I once went round a veal production plant (not like a farm at all more like a factory crossed with a horror film set) It was enough to make a vegetarian out of me.. the worst of it is the animal health standards for veal production, in the UK are FAR higher than in Europe. Which is a very sad thought. Try mint tea its very refreshing and really helps with digestion and stomach gripes. Flat or curly leaf parsley should be fine for you also, its from the same family as basil, oregano mint etc. Have you tried mushrooms? they are a very good source of high quality protein. I have eaten tons of them and have had no detachable reaction. (no not the "magic" mushroom type) I leave them well alone. They are great in soups and blend in nicely. You do not mention Fish? It can be cooked many, many ways and is really good for you. It also defrosts in a few min or can be cooked from frozen. Thin fillets can be cooked from frozen or thicker fillets can be part defrosted in a microwave then cut into chunks and cooks from part frozen, its great in soups too! Take care and hope your health and diet improve soon. Keep smiling

That's one of the things I'll get back when my body can heal....milk and milk products. I'm Celiac, but think that will be with me to stay. I hope on of these days I can try some of the foods you are suggesting. Hope to get glucose too...but it makes my stomach really sick right now.
Maybe by next summer, I'll be eating a lot more! Thanks for all the hints and suggestions. : )
