sugar alcohol

ok, another dumb question...............
i found sugar free cookies and jumped for joy; however, even though it shows 0 grams of sugar, it shows 4 grams of sugar alcohol......
what is sugar alcohol and do i need to throw out these cookies...haha

Check the ingredients list. That is the best place to look. I do allow the sugar alcohols (except for Sorbitol) for Regina. she does fine on them.
