My name is Megan and I was diagnosed with Fructose and Sucrose Intolerance 11 years ago. Since then the simptoms got worse each year and I felt so alone. No doctor knew anything about it. No dietician<?> could help me because it's such a rare medical problem. I felt so helpless until a friend found this board. Even though I hate knowing anyone else is dealing with this problem, it's nice to not be alone anymore. Thanks for the information. In one hour I've learned more then at any doctor's appointment. Megan, Michigan, USA

Hi Megan! Welcome to the board. I think we were all really happy to find this forum and others like us. It's so much easier to find foods that are safe now that we share our food experiences. I'm also from Michigan (Ann Arbor area) and was diagnosed at the UM Genetics department. Where are you in the mitten? *Laura

Ms. Colormist- Thanks for the welcome! I'm from Monroe, MI about 40 mins from you. It was UofM for me. they used the liquid fruitose and then surcose test for me. My doctor did fasting blood tests that was really bad. They made me drink orange juice. I was sick until the next day.

I guess I went in a little more prepared. I demanded the HFI test be done before any other avenues were ventured down. Thankfully the geneticist humored my "crazy person self-diagnosis on the internet" story. UGH, even thinking about drinking orange juice makes me queasy.

Welcome also from me.. I would have given them the orange juice back! either way.. ;D I have to admit I did let doctors inject me with 150 grams of fructose intravenously after 24 hours before giving me 150 grams of Sucrose the same way.. took me about 12 months to fully recover. Never again! This turns out to be about 100 times more than the actual dose they should have given me based on body weight! Doctors they might have been mathematicians they were not! The genetic test seems a little less damaging.. take care..
