My son was tested at his school for several different things. He is smart and has the ability to learn but, his processing speed is very low. At a meeting with school people they said he does not quilify for any assistance because his IQ and ability are so high but, because of his processing speed he if not doing well in a class room. He can't keep up with tasks, assignments, even moving from one task or area to the next he is always the last. We have always see this but, never knew what made him so slow.
The school has asked us to go back to the doc's to see if they can give him a diagnosis as to what is causing the slow processing. If they can tie it into a medical diagnosis he can get more 1 on 1 help during the day when needed.
So, I decided to toss it out on this board to see if anyone had any comments as to if this may be a HFI related thing.

I am an pretty sure that you can get an OHI (other health impared) classification if your son has a formal medical dx for HFI or DFI. Also it is the school's job to get outside evaluation if they feel something is causing a learning disability for you son in the classroom. They should cover the cost of this as well. You just need to request if formally in writing. Sometimes if is faster just to do this yourself. But you should not have to spend a penny if the school wants it done.
