I was checking out our HFI wikipedia page. I don't know if I noticed it before, but it now says "Hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) or fructose poisoning".
I've never heard of it mentioned as fructose poisoning before. I tried to google that phrase and haven't found anything to support the connection between the two. If anything it's also known as fructosemia.
Thought I'd get everyone else's opinion before removing it. Also, what do you think about adding a "how to get a diagnosis" section (or something like that). Just wanted to discourage consuming fructose as a form of diagnosis before any bloodwork.

I must say I've never seen it referred to as poisoning, in some ways I suppose it could be true as the fructose builds up as a toxin but it could be misleading too. Also I notice in the list of symptoms it lists kidney failure but not liver. I see it links onto another page which lists E numbers to avoid. I saw this list somewhere once before and then couldn't find it again so thanks for directing us to this page. The link is:
Food-Info.net Fructose Intolerance (with list of acceptable and non-acceptable carbohydrates)

I did a quick online search for fructose poisoning when I saw it on the wikipedia page. A lot of the comments about it were not in relation to HFI, but rather to mercury (or other poisonous substances) being in High Fructose Corn Syrup.
I also was checking out that food-info.net page and skimmed through the charts (not the clearest design ever, but it every documentation helps). I don't think I had seen it before.

I have never seen that before. I vote to remove it.

That does make it sound much more serious, but I don't like it. My vote would be to remove it. Almost makes it sound like you're doing it on purpose....

mmm I'm not sure.. In the UK its called PRIMARY Fructose Intolerance. So a UK Doctor might miss the link to HFI if they do not know a similar name exists.. It must be the same for other countries let alone in other Languages. What its called is not important so long as they have the facts right.. On this subject I think the people at www.Food-Info.net Fructose Intolerance need an update to get their info correct.. TO say that Fructose is "is not well tolerated" is an understatement in the extreme! They also are missing the Liver damage form their list of Nasties, which is our main danger. Keep smiling

I added a "Common Traits" section to the wikipedia site. I recall my biggest "THAT'S ME" moment was when I saw others confess their adoration for pixy stix. I'm trying to think of other common diet traits. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hereditary_fructose_intoleranceLet me know if you want me to add anything if you don't feel like editing the article yourself. Definitely need some European, Indian, and Australian foods/candies on that list (if you don't relate already). Still think we need a "how to go about getting a diagnosis" section, but I don't feel that's my strong point.

Has the page been updated lately?? I do not see any obvious edit notes but I looked the other day and it did not seem to be as thorough as I had remembered. I feel as though something was removed. Am I imagining this?? : )

Someone deleted a section in the past couple months. You can click on the history tab at the top and view past revisions. There might have been some other changes before then.

When I was first reading about HFI, the discussion board at Dr. Tolan's had a mention of pixy stix. The HFI-Pixy Stix connection was the biggest flag for me as to my diagnosis. After reading that, I scheduled an appointment for a genetic test. It seems a very common thread among HFIers, so I had to include it. And, yeah, I can't seem to understand the edits, either.
