Has anyone heard anything about coconut? The local grocery store just got in refrigerated unsweetened coconut milk in a carton (it's for drinking). I was wondering if that could be an option for my dairy allergic J.J. It's so sad that he has to drink water all the time. I haven't found anything he can drink.

Can't get a clear breakdown on the nutrition site, but warning bells are sounding as coconut is naturally sweet, it may be worth emailing the company to ask. I can't remember how recently you have been following the diet but to be honest you are better trying to stick to really safe foods, and if your son is OK sticking to water at the moment I would go with that. Don't forget he is too young to notice what he is missing out on at the moment so now is the ideal time to get him used to the restricted diet as it may be for life.
I went through a stage, and still do from time to time, when I got really worried about the restricted diet and got really depressed that megs couldn't have something but these guys helped me realise that she probably isn't bothered about it and is quite happy having the same old food as long as she can still join in. Their food tastes will be very different from ours because their bodies will be warning them what is bad for them.

great advice. we have different recipes which we use too. Sometimes my daughter drinks the brine from the tuna tin and thinks that it is a real treat, just like a sweet, for her.
Who knows what their tastes are like, but they are completely different to ours, and as long as they are happy, it is best to stay to what you know, just like charlie said. That is from my limited experience. Good luck

Thank you for the great advice. I've been really stressed out about his calcium intake. He doesn't get any calcium and the doctor says how important it is. I was just hoping that I could give him the coconut milk because it's enriched with calcium. I haven't been able to find a safe calcium supplement.

I'm not sure if you've said before, and if you have I'm sorry I don't remember......What part of the world are you in? We're in PA and the only calcium that we've found for Regina is from Giant Supermarkets. They have "Care One" -which is their generic brand - of antacid that is HFI safe and contains calcium. Not all the flavors are safe, but she uses either peppermint or spearmint.
The brand names all contain something that isn't allowed.
It's another place to look.

Tammy, I live in North Carolina. We don't have a Giant supermarket in around here.
I'll have to start looking at the non-name brands and see what I can find. Thanks!
