This is something that was suggested as a possible treatment if Megs was epileptic and when they thought she may have Glut 1 deficiency so I had looked it up. Having watched Megs alot over the holidays, her lack of energy and getting myself totally depressed reading old postings on the 5 year old and over category that this hypoglycemia and struggling at school to focus seems to be a common problem. So I got thinking, she seems to struggle with glucose and energy fluctuations so maybe she needs another way to store energy or generate energy. Having read a bit about the ketogenic diet it is on a level in a way with the fructose free diet but more extreme. I need to do a bit more studying on it first, I see Amazon have a few books as this has to be done really carefully but would be interested in what you guys think. I'll post a few links to it but incase they don't access it basically puts the body into a ketotic state and makes it use fats for energy so it is is high fat and lower protein and carbohydrate. It is a fairly new idea so may just not have been thought of for other things yet but maybe it teaches the body a different way of coping as fats are ok for most fructose problems.
Anyway, let me know what you all think if you get a chance, does anyone feel they are already on this type of diet.
Thanks, Charlie en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketogenic_Diet

Dear charlie, We have been on this type of diet and it has changed our lives. Sarisa is now able to concentrate better, but she has had a considerable decline in her IQ before we put her on this diet. I am still waiting to see if she bounces back intellectually. Her foggy times have decrease dramatically and she is also full of the energy an 8 year old should be. we have also kept her home to school (which you can do in Australia) which has helped with the diet and keeping the ketones up and glucose down. Good Luck, Let me know if you see any improvement.

Oh by the way, it was suggested by our Allergist and Dietician, who have some other kids on it with glucose problems. They explained to me that the brain can either use glucose or ketones to work, however, it prefers to use glucose. maybe that will help with your exploration of information.
