Hi, I was prescribed Seravit for Sarisa my daughter. We are trying to get it into her and she is refusing. She won't take it at all. Charlie, are you still using the Seravit or have you stayed clear from it? I am still not clear on the vitamin thing. Do they really need it? I have been reading on this site some of the comments. We cannot get some of the vitamins which you describe here as we are in Australia. My daughter will not take any comercial vitamins, she spits them out. The doctor is going to put in a gastro tube to get the vitamins down her. I am interested in your thoughts

We haven't tried the seravit as it has glucose powder as the first ingredient and they had said to keep her off glucose as she seemed to be reacting to it too. To be honest I'm not sure she is deficient as she is tall and healthy looking with a wonderful tan and clear skin unless having a food reaction. I use alot of local farm meats and home fresh cooking with some things organic so I'm not convinced there is a huge deficiency as a result. However symptoms of Vitamin C deficiency ie scurvy are fatigue and depression, also magnesium has been mentioned before in posts and that comes from green veg. There is another one I have found which is Abidec for under 5 years old, it has glycerol in it which I think has been queried before and is OK, the only query is the lemon flavouring in it, we are due to see our dietician next week so I'm going armed with labels and questions.

The next update is that we cannot tolerate seravit and they are suggesting neocate. Is there any experience on this preparation?

My daughter is 4 and a half. She has been on Neocate Jr. since 21 months. It has literally saved her. Along with no fructose/sucrose, she has had severe food allergies since a baby, to dairy, eggs, etc. And also celiac, so no wheat. To top it off, she cannot metabolize any protein for the last year and half,(probably damage from earlier fructose ingestion) So her diet has been extremely limited obviously. She drinks Neocate all day mixed with water, and unsweetened rice milk. It is not really drinkable on its own, but you can introduce it bit by bit so they get used to the taste. Now my daughter drinks half the cup Neocate, half the cup rice milk. (We use Natura Rice Milk, it lists natural sugars on the nutrition panel, but I called the company and they assured us it was mainly glucose, and then some other tolerated starches, and no fructose, as it is removed in the process to make the milk.) You just need to make sure it is one that has no sugar added, or vanilla added.
The Neocate lists corn syrup solids, and again the company assures us that they are pure glucose corn syrup solids. Neocate is so nutirionally complete, that you can rest easier when they are having it, knowing that they are getting all they need from it. Other that that, my daughter ate plain chips, and rice, and some rice flour bread, noodles, and cookies with dextrose, and some white potatoes. But because of the Neocate, she has thrived and is growing great.

Thanks for that. She sounds similar to my daughter. Good luck. Has she been diagnosed?
