Salt

Now this just makes me mad. Have any of you ever checked out your box of plain old salt? My cousin just kept Regina for a sleepover and she gets paranoid over the diet. She checked her box of generic salt. It has dextrose. Now we all know dextrose is fine for HFI, but it made me mad anyway. Why would they put any kind of sugar in salt?
So I came home and checked my Mortons salt. Yep. Dextrose. Again, ok for Regina but................... if it had been any other kind of sugar, I'd still be searching for the culprit that made her sick.
Just goes to prove even after 27 years, I still miss a label here and there.

LOL, I can't believe this. What would be the purpose of putting sugar in salt? I love salt, a lot, and this might very well be the culprit. Heavens knows I can't turn down dextrose to save my life.
I wonder if my sea salt has dextrose in it...

I would never have dreamt salt would have sugar in it. Thanks for the heads up. At restaurants I am so careful picking out safe foods, I would not have thought to watch the salt too. I use Celtic Sea Salt, and it is just what it says- salt, thank goodness. My doctor had me switch to that since it is a salt that is good for your heart. I love it. That's ridiculous, just checked out salt we have SAXA and that is OK if you believe the lable. Maybe it is used to bulk it out or make you use more. There was an interesting food programme last year where they broke down the contents in pizza. They showed an average take away pizza had 8 teaspoons of salt in it, to mask that they added a huge pile (can't remember exact quantity) or sugar to counteract it. Why? !!!!!!
