Hi all, its gone very quiet in here, does this mean we are all coping thanks to you lot. Has anyone tried soya puddings, the makes may be different where you are but my friendly chemists spotted a pudding that may be suitable for Megs, it is called Provamel and the ingredients are Water, organic wheat syrup, hulled soya beans 6%, organic wheat starch, organic vanilla extract, thickener: carrageenan, sea salt. They make a similar one with cocoa powder in it, Has anyone tried these, I know there have been discussions about soya beans with mixed reactions to them, it would be great if these were ok. The nutrition analysis is carbohydrates per 100g 15.8g of which sugars 9.9g Any ideas or experience?? Regards to all Charlie

Vanilla is not good. I've had a reaction to it and I know other's have had a reaction to it as well.
Anytime I read the word syrup, I flinch, but I have no experience with wheat syrup personally.
Also, certain types of soy can cause a reaction. Soy coffee beans made me violently ill.

I must admit the word syrup puts me off, also other things that say no fructose have malt extract again seems to signify sugar of some form, thats a bummer about vanilla as I hoped that would be good to flavour milk to make an ice cream for her. Looking like not such a good prospect. Have you used cocoa powder in anything as that may be another option for flavouring.

Hey Charlie-
I too would be a bit cautious with the wheat syrup. As Colormist has already stated, vanilla extract is a problem. The boys and I have both had reactions to it in the past. We now use an artificial vanilla flavoring by McCormick's that is clear - they don't add caramel coloring. We use this with no problem, but I have to say it doesn't taste nearly as good as the real thing.
I have used unsweetened cocoa powder. Some are better than others. For some reason I can not stand the Hersey's kind - makes me feel ill, but I don't know if that is a fructose issue or not. Even with the good kinds, we can't have too much because, of course, chocolate has fructose in it ...
Oh - as a little side note - to get around the eggs have fructose issue - we bought a carton of egg whites, since most of the fructose is in the yolk. Calvin had eggs today and did not seem to have any problem - but we'll hold off on the celebration for a couple of days ...
Best, Sandra
