Getting ready for Nate's 5 year checkup in a few weeks. Last time I saw the GI 2 years ago, he suggested checking him again before starting Kindergarden and possibly doing some allergy testing as well.
I'm not convinced a trip back to the GI doc is going to tell me something new, but wondering if there is any value in asking the ped if she will refer to Metabolics or doc from another specialty?
What specialists do you consult with and how do they help you or your child?

Regina only sees one specialist for HFI. A gastroenterologist takes care of all her liver things. A pediatric gastroenterologist is who finally DX her and when she got older, she just changed to an adult Doc.

Megs sees a General Paediatrician who does the referring out - slowly - and a Paed Gastro chap. We are awaiting referral to a Metabolic specialist for the glucose problem. Lots of appointments but few answers but think we will be left in hands of GI chap.

Ooops, forgot to ask, how is Nate doing, I think you were posting way back when I started first time round with Megs and having a rough time from what I remember.

Things are going pretty well for Nate lately other than the standard winter illnesses. He self regulates pretty well now and only occasionally has bad BMs.
Developments: Nate has not eaten red meat in 3 years and suddenly he has decided that steak is OK. Being a meat and potatoes guy himself, my husband was happy to hear that! He also told me recently that he had a meatball at school and it was tasty. I'm a little apprehensive about school feeding him food I did not bring, but he seemed to do OK with it.
He also seems to be doing OK with chocolate lately. He loves going to See's (a candy bar from there lasts a few weeks, so he's not eating a lot) and we occasionally make SF oatmeal choco chip cookies with it. We've also found SF dark & milk choc bars at Trader Joes that are OK.
