When I was a teen ager a coach complained that I acted like I was in the fog.
Pizza, coke and icecream cake at friends birthday partys always got me and I didn't know why.
Too, after lunch I can remember some really horrible gas. Horrible horrible.
At different times in life the disease seems to present it self in different ways.
I had bad head aches and should have done alot better in school but had trouble concentrateing and was spacey.
I would walk out of science lab with my goggles still on and not realize it till I almost got to my next class.
I was a runner and at least once had to go in a public place. There is something about running that knocks loose fructose into your system.

I forgot to put that after a wrestling injury in the hospital I develped a groin rash that the dermatologist was puzzled by and jock itch stuff didn't help. I had it on and off all my life especially when I exersized alot till I realized it was a rash from Riboflavin deficiencey.

I just saw that raisins have very high fructose. When I was in Highschool for some reason I ate raisin bran for breakfast every single day. The wheat had fructans. It is a vague memory, but for some reason it was summer and there was no food and I was eating raisin bran for lunch and dinner as I recall and I felt sick. It is a vague memory.

Dear Chad, Now you are on a fructose free diet (I presume that you are) Has your vagueness dimished?

Hi Chad, You brought back strong memories for me too! Perhaps I can explain a little of what's going on here. Running "knocks loose fructose into your system" You are dead right about that, yes it dose! When we all (Normals as well as HFI'ers) eat food we convert unused extra food into fat. However if we need to burn more energy than we have available in digesting food (food recently eaten) then our bodies firstly use a short term fuel which is kept in our Liver then switch to converting body fat back into blood sugar which in turn feeds our cells and give us energy. Now here's the problem you have discovered already.. we all (Normals and HFI'ers) convert back body fat into 2 sugars.. Glucose and the dreaded Fructose.. so in effect we poison ourselves! If you know you are going to be doing hard exercise then you can eat before hand (at least 20 min) which will help, if you eat the right foods of course! I am not suggesting you eat a HUGE meal immediately before exercise because that will just make you sick.. but I find eating as much as 24 hours before will help a lot! IF it is of any consolation to you.. as you start to get old (OK you might think 45 is old!) your natural background Blood sugar level rises so in effect you get less Bad days! It is far harder for me to slip into a Vague state now than it was before. Also of course I'm not running around like a loony as much as I used to! And yes I'm older than 45, just don't rub it in OK??? ;D Best advice is learn to cook and experiment.. you will throw a lot of food away to start with, but soon you will find your condition improves rapidly as you start to narrow down the things that make you feel well after eating them and meals that just don't "do it " for you. I hope this dose not sound condescending but I have tried to word this for any teenagers that might read it.. Keep smiling.. Bill A.
