With Easter coming, for those who can eat Maltitol and would like Easter candy.
Regina eats it just fine, but I know some say they have trouble with it. If you eat too much, it can have a laxitive effect, but that is true with everyone, not just HFI. Even if Regina over does it, she just has runny poop, but no HFI systems.

I'm not sure what they can do online, but if you give them a call, they will special make whatever you want. They are a small local store near me. They have made chocolate rabbits for me in the past. They aren't cheap, but when you really don't have a choice...............
Just keep in mind, when they say "sugar free" they are only talking about the chocolate coating. Don't get them filled with anything. Like the "sugar free" chocolate pretzels. The chocolate is fine, but the pretzels they coat are NOT. Same with the peanut butter eggs. The pb they use is not. Some things like jelly beans are brought in and they contain sorbitol. You'll be fine if you call them and just order SF chocolate only.

Also, www.gertrudehawkchocolates.com/home carries SF chocolate that uses maltitol. Again, as with the other place, they coat a pretzel that contains corn syrup. So just stay with the chocolate. They are a little cheaper, but you only get what they have. They don't do special orders. Their pb cubs are ok, though.

I hope this helps. If you do decide to order for Easter, I would do it right away. They get busy at this time of the year.

So far we have got away without any sort of chocolate for Easter but the school always give them out so I shall have to liase with them, she likes the cute bunny or chick toys and they last longer - in fact she still has them so we will probably go down that route still. Luckily I don't particularly like chocolate so people just don't give them too us. Probably harder to do that if you have other kids in family who can have them.

Thank you for the links. We don't have any HFI-ish related reactions to maltitol, so I am excited to be able to get Calvin a chocolate bunny or something like that for Easter. For the most part we will be giving him non-food items, but it would be nice if he could have a treat as well. I am addicted to my new sugar-free Dove chocolates - could stand them being a little less sweet and a little more chocolately, but they'll do.

Easter baskets. Several years ago I started buying spring and summer T shirts, sunglasses from the dollar store, flip flops and various other clothing items for warm weather to put in the easter basket. Inexpensive bright colors shirts, socks, rolled up tight then tied in cute curly ribbon filled the baskets quickly. This saved me from buying lots of cheap plastic junk, gave them items I would have spent money on anyway. It gave me a few items to start off the warmer season since last years were almost always to small or worn out. My kid were more excited about the new clothing than getting plastic junk. Yes they still got sweets just not very much.

Well my plan to cope with Easter at school didn't quite work. They announced that Easter Eggs would be given out after the service at end of term so I popped in a couple of Easter Chick toys so that she would have something she could keep that the school had given her as usually she has to hand whatever over. Well, the silly headmistress told her as she gave them that "mummy gave you these". The whole idea was that she thought the school had made a special effort. Never mind, she loved the chicks and was thrilled to have something of her own but the point just wasn't there. They don't seem to have registered the limitations and effect of this diet and how to blend it into her daily life. I'm sure we'll get there one day!!! At least it more or less went over her head but it annoyed me. As she is only 6 I have a while longer to train them.
