I make our own ice cream but, our fresh and natural store in town has an ice cream I keep wondering about. It is oatscream (dairy free). The ingredients for the chocolate are: water, oat flour, dutched cocoa, natural flavors, guar gum, locust bean gum, carrageenan, vitamin e. I know oat flour like wheat may bug some but, wondering if anyone sees any other issues? They also have a vanilla that is the same except no cocoa.

I'd be a little suspicious of that locust bean too. But you know, as sad as it is, there's only one way to know for sure.
Is this a specialty place, or would we be able to find this 'brand' in our stores too?
Let us know how it goes if you try it!

We may just give it a try someday. He tolerates some items (oatmeal, whole wheat, popcorn, ect...) We do have to limit these but, he does fine a few time a week. The shop serves the ice cream in cups or cones (soft serve) and also sells it in small cartons. Here is the website for the product. It lists more information than what I gave before. www.americanoats.com/I will let you know if we give it a try. I figured as a special treat sometime we would go out for icecream. He misses DQ and to my dissapointment DQ does not even have unsweetended shaved ice. We have put pixie sticks and fun dip on shaved ice at ball games before and I had hoped DQ would be able to do the same so when we were invited to to we could. Nancy

I just took a look at the site myself and relized the soft serve does not have the locust bean in it. That will be where we start.

Nancy We used to be able to get Bryers ice cream. They now use splenda to sweeten it, but prior to that, we used the ice cream all the time. The ingredients look about the same, except it also had dairy. Anyway, I do remember it also had that locust bean gum and Regina did fine on it. I would try it if it were in our area. Tammy

Just received an e-mail reply from americanoats.com, and their 'ice cream' is only available "in the midwest." They did not specify where in the midwest, but they do eventually get around to answering their e-mails, at least! Being in Arizona I didn't go any further with my disappointment...
