What to you guys use for toothpaste when your kids are still so young that they swallow it? I think I have now looked at every brand out there and ansolutely everything has some kind of fructose or glucose in it.

Colgate. The old orignial plain kind. Sometimes it hard to find without all the new whitener and such in it, but luckily our Walmart still carries it.

We use Plain Colgate and we also use Crest Pro-Health Clean Mint.
When my children were real small we just used plain water until they could get the hang of spitting the toothpaste out.
Also, our dentist has been very accomodating with using a safe cleaner and flouride treatment for our kids. If you want I could ask what they use and give you the information to give to your dentist.

And, hey. Those babies are going to get a whole new set of teeth anyway, so I don't think baking soda (though it tastes awful) is that bad of an alternative. You might try adding some peppermint/wintergreen/cinnamon oil (make sure they're hfi safe, of course) to amend the flavor. (wikihow article: www.wikihow.com/Make-Toothpaste ) The article suggests adding glycerin, but I'm not sure if that's HFI safe or not. Might be simpler to skip the sweetener step.

I use Tom's of Maine strawberry flavour for kids, it contains no sorbitol.

I glad I can find toothpaste without sorbitol here in Sweden. Usually this means a more expensive, ecological brand and they sometimes contain xylitol (which I don't mind), but it can be found. Urtekram is one brand that I use sometimes and they also have a children's toothpaste, though I don't know if this can be found outside Scandinavia. Their toothpaste contains: Calcium carbonat, glycerin, water, Agar Agar, myrrh, propolis and essential oil.

If anyone finds a kids toothpaste without natural fruit oils, sorbitol or glycerin please let me know. Calvin is VERY sensitive to glycerin and most of the natural ones have this. I am going to try to make my own stuff sometime this week.

Thanks for all the replies, As to the Tom's of Maine Strawberry kids toothpaste, I looked at it but it contains fruit. Here is the list of ingredients from their website: Name Purpose Source Glycerin Moistener Vegetable oils Water Consistency Maine aquifer Calcium carbonate Mild abrasive Purified calcium from the earth Hydrated silica Stain removal Purified silica from the earth Fruit extracts Flavor Strawberry, banana, & other natural flavors Carrageenan Thickener Seaweed (Chondrus crispus) Sodium lauryl sulfate Dispersant Derived from coconut and/or palm kernel oil Even the adult one that I had gotten him from Tom's was a little questionable to me because it also had the Sodium lauryl sulfate which says that it is derived from coconut and/or palm kernel oil. I tried a paste of plain baking soda the other day and he refused it. I would probably feel the same way about the taste if I was two. (or my age). I'll go try to find that plain colgate today.

So I called Colgate yesterday to see what was in their original toothpaste. Looking at the ingredients they all seemed fine except for the obscure "flavoring". When I asked them what the flavoring was they told me it is sorbitol. I think we'll just resort to brushing with water until I talk to my dentist.

I had my sons dietitian check tom's of main and they do have a fluoride toothpaste that is safe to use. I'll get back to you guys with the exact name. Not all of them are safe because while they do not contain sorbitol some of them have fruit flavorings that are not safe.
