Hello Everyone!
I have a few questions about safe vegetables for my daughter. Lily. As most of you know, she was diagosed with HFI at 3 months of age. She is know 5 years old and doing great.
Here is a list of vegetables that she eats: Spinach Romaine Lettuce Iceberg Lettuce Broccoli Cauliflower Green Beans Snow Pea Pods Endamame Green Peppers Cukes Idaho Potato Cilantro Parsley Rhubarb -- in a jam (occassionally) Avacado -- occasionally Lemon/Lime -- occasionally
Here are the veggies/fruit that I am wondering about: Green Zuchini Purple Eggplant Radishes Cranberries -- fresh
If someone who follows a strict HFI diet could please comment and let me know if you've tried anything on my "wondering about" list I would greatly appreciate it.
It seems as if we get into food ruts, and I like to try to make things as interesting and as safely as possible for Lily.
Her peditrician wanted her to take a safe Vitamin C and Vitamin D tablet. I was able to find both at a local grocery store that she swallows every morning. He did want me to give her a multi-vitamin but all kid vitamins that I have found are off limits, and since she eats so healthy I haven't ground up an adult version yet. Is there anyone here who give their children a multi-vitamin and what do you do? Type, etc.
Thanks so much in advance!

I can taste sugar in the following (so I tend to avoid them): iceberg lettuce broccoli cauliflower (haven't had endamame)
I tend to avoid green peppers. I've lumped them with Onions when I was a child, so I'm not sure if this was a fructose-related avoidance or just general dislike avoidance.
I've also been having a reaction to avocado, but this one's still up for debate.
These definitely have fructose in them: snow pea pods Zucchini cranberries.
I'm not sure about eggplant (I've only had it once--pre-DX). And I eat radishes, but in moderation.

Dear Colormist, Thanks for the information.
When you saw you have a reaction to them, what is your reaction?
Lily is checked 2x a year -- blood draw and physical exam by a liver specialist (who diagonsed her with HFI) and she's doing great.
Thanks. Kelly

Pretty heavy nausea. I don't usually puke, but I have been on the verge when eating avocado. I don't think it's common across all HFIers, though. Then, of course, later with hypoglycemia, cravings for my comfort food (usually potato chips, milk), and dark urine.

Hi, I already put this information in another thread, but just in case...
I give my baby a multivitamin supplement called Oranol made by Bayer AG, Switzerland. It is drops that I mix with a tiny bit of food as he doesn't like the taste. If I mix it with lots of food he refuses the whole bowl. He also has a separate vitamin C supplement. The Oranol was checked by the consultant here who said it is HFI safe.
With vegetables, courgette and avocado make him vomit. The only vegetables he eats are spinach and mushrooms. I am planning to try canned green beans, but his sister ate the last lot I bought!

Just to translate, courgette is UK English for zucchini. (sorry)

Cranberries and snow peas were on an HFI safe list i had. So far Nate does OK with both, but he eats in small amounts. They even grew snow peas (not snap peas, they're different) in the garden at his school last year which was fun. He says radishes are too spicy - they grew those too.
I made cranberry sauce from fresh berries and dextrose for Thanksgiving this year and it was pretty tasty. It is good on toast w/cream cheese too, oh and on pb sandwiches.

Hi. I'm new to the board, but I give my son Nano VM that I buy online. He is 2 and was diagnosed at 4 months.
