I just recently met with another HFI'er for the first time ever (excluding my brother). It was soooo much fun!! Jane has posted a couple of times here before and is Betsy's older sister. She came to town to visit family and was super proactive in contacting me and inviting me to breakfast. We had a blast!! We just talked and talked about food issues, what life was like growing up, having a sibling who also has HFI, how we found out about the condition, etc. I don't think there was one moment of silence the entire time! I joked that I ALWAYS have some anxiety in meeting people for a meal at someone else's home, but this was the first time ever that I didn't have to worry about it. All of the food was wonderful and HFI safe. Thanks again Jane!! We also talked about how much fun it would be to have a big group get together. Shoot, as much fun as we had in just a couple of hours, I can't imagine if a whole slew of us got together. I know we talked about doing the California thing in February (and Sarah & Mike, I'll still be there!) but maybe we can also try to do something on this coast, or something more central to the people out this way. It's amazing how spread apart we all are. Makes it tough to do a group thing, but I sure would love to try.

Regina and I are still trying to come up with a way to make it to California, but the timing is just not working out for us.
But if you put something together on this coast or in the central part of the states, We'll put a big get together with everyone as a priority.
Regina and I met Fred and had lunch with him. I know exactly what you mean about it being the first time I didn't worry about what she was eating. It was sooooooooo much fun.

There are alot of people with HFI around here although I don't know any. All of the German doctors I have met are very familiar with it and they said they have patients come in with it occasionally.

Mike: I've been traveling for work the past few days-have missed some posts. I know sarah (and I) are excited to meet Julie in Feb. When Sarah was diagnosed about 15 years ago-she did meet another HFIer-another girl, also named sarah, who was about 6 years old. Unfortunately, the little girl's parents made her drink her apple juice "like every good girl" and she had some serious problems. On a completely random note-I saw Colomist's posting about the TV show House having an HFI episode--I can picture it now--"She becoming hyperglycemic--quick get some banana runts and a pixie stick---no! not the blue one! But, I do see a House-like twist--how is it that Sarah, Colormist, Julie and Regina are all 29-31ish year old Caucasian females... Miguel is also about the same age..right?

Thanks Julie for the post. This was also my first meeting with an HFIer and I was as thrilled as you. I really hope we can have a meeting of "us" somewhere east of the Miss. so many of us can drive. Anyone have a suggestion?

"Just a thought on Mike's "house - like twist", hmmmm, lets see, Regina is actually only 25 so she's a little younger than the rest......But with Julie, colormist, Sarah and Miguel being so close to the same age.......... HEY FRED, YOU WEREN'T BY ANY CHANCE DOING ANY TRAVELING AROUND THE STATES AROUND THAT TIME WERE YOU? ;D" THE HOUSE-PLOT THICKENS!!! LOL

Hi Pulsari,
I actually met up with Sarah and her husband Mike this past February in the San Francisco area. We had a really nice dinner together, and as expected talked about lots of food "issues"!
Congratulations on your wedding! I love Las Vegas! Normally I'd love any old excuse to travel, but I'm due with a baby this October, so we plan to stick close to home until next summer or so.
I think many here are interested in planning a group get-together, but it's so tough with us spread all over the world.

Mike: Congrats on the wedding! I've mentioned this before, Sarah had our cake lady make the top tier of our cake out of Brie cheese, so she could eat a slice of her cake. As for a meeting-CA and Vegas are nice....but I was thinking now that we have someone is Australia and someone in Cypress....an international meeting would be fun....(but, unlikely, at least for now for us Pulsari-if you are near the SF area next Feb, let us know, we would love to meet you. I love Vegas and somehow end up going a few times a year--I went with Sarah's uncle and his Ferrari/Lamborghini club a few weeks ago--doubt I'll have an experience like that any time soon

Love the idea of the Bree wedding cake!! Sounds like Sarah and Julienc both have quite similar eating to me...
Fred sent me some details of someone in Aus who might be able to help with a diagnosis - just gotta bite the bullet I think and organise the test....

I understand, my husband also needs a big bib when he eats. He can be so messy sometimes.
