Hey Gang! Just wanted to pop in and say hi to you all. Our new baby girl is now 3 weeks old, and everything is going great! She is such a little doll! No idea yet if she has HFI - we're taking the wait-and-see approach, so I guess we'll know in 4 months or so when we introduce solids. My hospital stay was hilarious with my HFI "diet". Actually, it wasn't too funny at the time. The food staff had NO idea how to accommodate me and were totally confused. Finally, a day and a half into my stay, and after talking to 2 managers and the nutrition specialist, they labeled me as a diabetic. So bizarre. I really thought it would go smooth since I had all the answers this time around - lists of foods I could eat, clear explanations of what I could not have, etc. My goodness - there is so much education that needs to be done in the world of fructose intolerance. Fortunately they have a really nice cafeteria, so my dear husband could supplement my meals with treats from downstairs. Most importantly, our baby girl is here safe and sound. Looks like there has been a lot of activity on here lately - I'll have to catch up! -Julie

Been doing a bit of trolling through old pages and found this one, how is your little girl getting on, she must be near weaning stage, have you had any diet problems yet and how are you going to approach it? have you had any advice on what to do?
Hope things are going well

Hope things are going well Hi Charlie, Thanks for asking! My baby girl Claire is doing great. We've just now introduced rice cereal. We'll probably wait another month before introducing vegetables. So far she has been a perfectly "normal" baby. I was breastfeeding until a month ago, and she has done just fine on regular formula. I talked at length with my geneticist about how to handle her with solid foods. I decided to forgo genetic testing and just monitor closely when I introduce foods that contain fructose. We went over all the stats, and the chances of her also having HFI are so very slim. Plus, I know all the symptoms to look for - if she exhibits anything remotely indicating possible HFI, I have the "back door" number to the clinic and can get her right in for testing. But again, I'm so familiar with the condition that there isn't much they could tell me diet-wise. It'd just be for confirmation. This is the 4th child between my brother and me, and the first three are HFI-free. I suspect that Claire will be the 4th, but we'll know soon. -Julie

Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let you all know that baby Claire is HFI-free! We've been giving her fruits and vegetables for a few weeks now, and she is doing just fine. She definitely does not like sweet potatoes, but she gobbles up applesauce, squash, and pears likes it's going out of style!
So, between my brother and me, it looks like HFI has skipped this next generation.
Phew!!

Thats great news Julie, she can eat all your left overs now then. Well done, must have been a nervous time introducing it for a while there.
