We're back again after a stupid mommy moment. As a reminder my 8 year old was diagnosed FI about 3-4 years ago. He was doing very well and we actually we able to "loosen" his retrictions quite a bit. Fast forward, the child who could never gain weight has gained almost 20 in 5 months. So we go see endocrinology(he has a lot of other health probs) who suggests we see a dietician. Ahh yes, the dieticians in the world of fructose problems. So she tries to tell me that veggies don't have fructose in them. She says to limit his fruits to 1-2 servings a day. He was maybe getting 1-2 servings a week. I knew better, but since he had done so well with limited restirctions before, we started the veggies and fruits. Well he was up for 4 hours screaming in pain last night. I asked him what it felt like and he said like when he had fructose pain(crazy he remembers because it's been 4 years since diagnosis, I guess you never forget that pain) I almost took him to the ER, but we held off and saw the ped this am. He's extremely bloated and distended again. She said she could just feel the air being pushed around. Sigh,, I really knew better to. I'd like to kick that dietician in the teeth!! It's terrible, but what is said about the dieticians are correct. They really are cluelss. She even gave me a pamplet on all the "ok" foods. WRONG!!! Now we;re back to square one!!
