Mike:-Laura-you were way to nice in your reply to her stupid article-I was a bit meaner-I get so angry when I have to read such sophomoric writings in newspapers-as someone who works in San Francisco-the only thing I hate reading more than the SF Chronicle (ie: the Comical-get it, it rhymes) is reading the Examiner-it is published to resemble a tabloid magazine.
Did you notice the author of that article received an HONORARY Ph.D from her church--no wonder-but her e-mail is Dr....something at gmail.
On a completely seperate note-we tried the Kellog-Not-Frosted Mini Wheats--they are way better than Shredded Wheat-much fluffier and less of a chocking hazard when eating them dry

Mike, I didn't even check to see that she had added a comment after my own about HFI. I was surprised that she wrote in the comments at all. I'm always too nice. What do you have to do to get an honorary doctorate in religious philosophy? And why does that make her qualified to write that article? Her bio seems filled with a lot of fluff. UnFrosted (that still makes me laugh) Mini Wheats are awesome. If they were cheaper than the generic shredded wheat, I might buy them more often. They remind me of mini-shredded wheat biscuits. I don't understand why they're more expensive than Frosted Mini Wheats--they have less ingredients.

I'm on a long and boring conference call now-so I did some quick research on the author--not sure what you have to do get an honorary PH.D. from a church--not even a university--but you can buy her certified nutritionist degree for about $50.--I bought myself two She didn't even pay to renew her degree. I love it how these people pass themselves of us experts.... When Sarah was in the hospital after giving birth, some nutritionists came by to discuss diet with her-and had no clue on how to provide an HFI free diet for her Julie-did you have that experience?

We had that problem with Regina when she was in the hosp. I talked to the Dietician several times, but they still never got it right. They tried. They were willing to make hers special, but would still send up things like vanilla yogurt, containing sugar.
And without fail, even with signs hanging all around the room, which we had to put up, at least once a day a nurse would come in with her meds crushed up into applesauce................arrrggghhhh. One nurse even argued with me and said that was how the Dr ordered it. Put into applesauce or pudding. She didn't win, though. But it also meant we could never leave Regina alone in the room.

When Sarah was in the hospital after giving birth, some nutritionists came by to discuss diet with her-and had no clue on how to provide an HFI free diet for her Julie-did you have that experience? I wasn't diagnosed when I gave birth to my son, so I just ate what I could from the meals they provided, avoiding the sweet things (as I had always done). They also brought me seconds of the things I could eat, so that was nice. I didn't have a nutritionist visit me either, that I can recall. That whole hospital stay was a bit of a blur, though. At least I'll be more prepared this time around. The last time I was there the hospital gave the patients a menu of the meals for the next day, and you could pick and choose what you wanted with several different entrees and sides to choose from. Even down to choosing milk or juice with your breakfast. So, I'm hoping it won't be too difficult to pick around all of that and find safe foods. And now I'll at least be able to explain what I can and can't eat. Only 4 more weeks to go!!!!

Looks like another person commented on the article who has colitis. They pointed out that she has her information about food restrictions wrong. Bleah.
On one hand, I really want these lady's articles to be good. On the other hand, she's always posting misinformation. It's nice to get the word out about these diets, but it's disappointing that she can't get her facts straight.
