Please vote for all symptoms you get after eating fructose. Which long term symptoms did you/your child develop, before diagnosis? Voting only for HFI persons.

A few clarifications on my votes....
I checked both boxes (within 1 hour and within 2 hours) for my symptoms to show after ingesting fructose. It can happen as quickly as 10 to 15 minutes, but sometimes as long as an hour and a half, but generally it falls in that range.
I also checked the anemia box. I've never heard that anemia can be related to HFI - is this the case? I almost always have low iron when my blood is tested. It hasn't been a problem except for during my pregnancies.

Adding Kidney Pain. I usually only get kidney pain when I eat sweets inadvertently the previous day. It usually depends on the amount of sugar in the food, which determines how quickly your body reacts.
I only selected the options which I'm sure are obvious signs of sugar ingestion.

ANEMIA is supposed to be a long term effect of either lower intake of iron or its reduced absorption from frequent diarrhea, I guess.
KIDNEYS, are, beside liver and intestine, the place where unmetabolised fructose-1-phosphate can be accumulated.

You missed vomitting as an option to choose. I think everyone here has had that problem.

lol@boron
Vomiting/nausea is a given. I'm more of a nausea person myself. I have a high tolerance for staying miserably nauseated, even though I'd really want to get that stuff out of my stomach.

Yes Vomiting/nausea for me too. Once repeated every 40 min for a 6 hours!
This occasion when I was 16 years old was after was after a meal at a Texas Pancake House supposedly providing a NONE sweet pancake (the sugar was hidden under melted butter) I had commented that it was a bit "crunchy" I had eaten most of the pancake before I realised that the crunchiness was pure sucrose.
I also get loss of motor reflex.. IE I loose balance and stumble, become clumsy as the auto reflex action stops working, usually before I get the shakes and loss of mental capability.

This is kind of embarrassing, I think, but I'm pretty sure most HFIers have really dark urine (darkness depends on the amount of sugar ingested) with a god-awful smell as a side effect.
I, personally, have never noticed diarrhea.

This is very true for Regina. AND not only the urine, but sometimes I swear something has crawled up there and died when she has a bowel movement &/or just gas. With or without diarrhea. Doesn't matter. Sometimes we just have to leave the house. lol.
I kind of remeber one of the other Mom's talking about this also, but not sure which one at this moment.

It was probably me. If Nate is clean his urine is normal. He did get a sip of orange juice at daycare one day a couple of years ago and the urine actually blistered and ate the skin on his legs. He was in bandages for around a week and it was HORRIBLE!! This was when he was still in diapers. I think the thread is called "Acidy yuck".
When he gets something bad now and gets diarrhea he will generally call me in to the bathroom and ask me to look at his BM to see what he ate. The sad thing is that I can usually tell just by look and smell.

I have had no Urine problems but then I drink a LOT of fluids.. about 1 to 2 liters water and 5 to 10 mugs of Tea.. along with the occasional beer I know what Tammy is going through I was like that until i got my diet under control. Onion and or Beans.. = bad GAS! But onion is just essential for the taste of a meal The extra fibre (Psyllium Husk) and Colofac MR has helped more than I can describe to keep nasty smells under control. Ask your doctor if you can try them. It has changed my life for sure.

You missed vomitting as an option to choose. I think everyone here has had that problem. I vomited a lot as a child, but that was before my diagnosis. I don't think I've ever vomited due to sugar intake after being diagnosed. Sometimes I've wished I could, but I don't. I usually describe my symptoms as a really bad case of moving sickness. Pale, sweating, queasy stomach, dizzy and sometimes a bit of a headache.
