This is a problem as most is very sweet being based on onion stock. Making your own is easy and far better than any bought version in my experience. However if you are going out for a meal with friends and they want to eat Indian then most places do Tandoori Chicken. This comes with a green salad and lots of lovely sliced onion which is not good but very tasty.. Be careful of the yogurt and other relishes as they are almost all sweet with added refined sugars. All places do Nan breads some I can eat some I cannot. Again being able to detect low levels of sugar in foods is an essential skill particularly when eating out. Chapatis are good as are Poppadoms. Having friends who do not mind swapping food is a good idea if you are not sure, and order different meals just in case. Enjoy.

Same in Australia,
I can rarely find anything I can eat an any Asian restaurants inc Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Indian.
It becomes really difficult as I tend to avoid attending any social occasions such as Bdays or work functions which are held at these restaurants. Everyone has a mission to want to find something you can eat and ridicule when you just order plain rice and broccolli ;(

You should be able to eat fine in a Chinese restaurant. I was in Australia for 5 weeks over xmas and had no problems eating at Nandos or in several Chinese restaurants / takeaways over there. I usually, if in doubt, choose a Foo Young (Omelet with veg and meat of some description) and remove the Onion and peas. crispy Duck and pancakes is usually OK if I avoid eating too much of the sliced spring onion... IF you are worried stick to what you trust but ask if you can sample (taste) what your friends are eating. if you sample just a small bit and wait to see if you get a reaction. I can detect very small levels of refined sugar in foods by a cooling effect in my mouth even if I cannot actually taste the sugar. Just ask them which dishes contain added sugar and ask them to please cook you a meal without added sugar or eat meals that do not contain any added sugar. Bamboo shoots and water chestnuts are Fine as are Chinese mushrooms. Egg fried Rice is good just remove the peas. I can also eat Noodle dishes as the onion is not cooked too much and the sugars have not permeated the sauce so I quickly remove them along with any carrot and get on with the meal. I agree eating out particularly at friends is a problem. If they are having a Barbecue then I always take some meat that has not been smothered in horrid sticky sweet sauce and cook it myself or ask them to cook it for me. Some Chicken can be skinned to remove the sweet sauce after cooking I have found. Keep being awkward PS. I will start a thread and list some home made BBQ sauce mixes which are plenty tasty but do not include sugar.
