Hey Everyone,
My family and I just booked tickets to the San Francisco area to visit friends in February. I ran this by Sarah and Mike, and it seems like this may be a good time to try and do an HFI meet-up. Regardless, we'll plan to get together, but it'd be great if other HFI'ers can make it out there.
So, check your calendars for the weekend of February 9th and 10th, 2008!

Mike: Everyone should come out. We live in the area, so we could help with planning, and take everyone to all the HFI friendly restaurants in the area.

It could be a possiblity for us. I may have to juggle something, but may just be a possibilty. We were thinking about maybe being in Phoenix the weekend before (for the super bowl) so I"ll have to see how that ends up first.

blargh, my life will be in the midst of chaos right then (moving to a new state & finding a new job), so I won't be able to attend. Well, that and the fact that I live on the Great Lakes and am afraid of airports (not airplanes, airports).

Too much stress. I often have nightmares about missing flights. This is probably due to my first experience flying. It was on my own--I mean, I went with other college students, but I had to sit by myself. From Columbus to Minneapolis, I had to change flights 3 times. I just remember RUNNING through the Chicago airport like a bat out of Hell. We had 30 minutes to catch our flight on the opposite side of the airport. We got there just in time.
I really don't like being late for ANYTHING and the fact that being late at the airport means I could miss my flight, waste $150 bucks on plane ticket, and potentially lose a day in hotel reservations also doesn't help. The new regulations and hoops you have to jump through also don't make me happy. Last time, my mother-in-law was arguing with the luggage inspector about keeping her hair gel and Dr. Pepper. She almost got arrested for a 50-cent pop can and a $1.00 hair gel.

So did your luggage make it to the next plane also? We've ran and barely made the flight many times, and sometimes the bags are there, and sometimes they aren't. They always show up eventually. Guess you wouldn't have been too happy on our trip coming home one time. London's Heathrow airport. They lost their radar for a couple hours. So EVERYTHING was backed up. We couldn't get in on time, and then didn't make the connecting flight. No hotels to be found anywhere, stood in line for hours to get a new flight, only to be 3 from the front of the line, when they shut the window for the night. We slept on the floor of the airport (with our luggage) in line in front of the window. We still laugh about it. It was Mom, my son, and I. We're all pretty good travelers. Not something I'd want to do everyday but It didn't really faze us. Now every winter when we see pics on the news of some airport being shut for snow, and people laying all over the floor, we point and say, "Hey, that's us". Luckily Regina wasn't with us. That would have made it a little more tricky.

I probably would have been crying all night long. I don't really like it when things are beyond my control. I've had my flights delayed a few times. It's always fun running like mad through the airport only to get to your station and realize it's on a 3-hour delay. They could REALLY make those seats a tad more comfortable. And what's up with the arms? Are they just there to discourage people from sleeping on them?
At the time, I was only doing a carry-on. So my luggage made it. Can't quite do a carry on anymore--not with saline and all those other liquids I like to carry with me.

Oh my gosh Tammy, what a nightmare. I don't do well when things don't work out as planned. Knock on wood, we've had good luck with plane travel in the past. This trip in February will only be our 2nd time flying with our son, and having a toddler makes it a whole new dynamic. I can sit on the floor of an airport and read a book for hours. He's not so easily entertained.
