I've already posted a link on Wikipedia, but I think we need some more web-awareness for HFI. I was messing around with Yahoo Answers and couldn't find any questions related to HFI. I was thinking about asking some questions on Yahoo Answers that only HFI-knowledgeable people might know the answer to. However, I run into the dilemma that nobody will answer the question properly and I won't be able to pick a best answer. I was hoping one of you guys had a yahoo account and then could answer the question appropriately. This is probably breaking yahoo answers rules, but I don't trust the general public to know the answer. Here's my first question: answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylc=X3oDMTBxcDMxYWk4BF9TAwRzZWMDbWFpbHRvBHNsawNzdWJqZWN0;_ylv=3?qid=20080326061418AAUxgMNI might post a second question later with "What is Hereditary Fructose Intolerance?"

You have a space in your link to the question between the #4 and the #1. If you click on it now, you get "this question has been deleted". For anyone else who wants to answer, just copy and paste the entire link, and then delete the space. I think getting HFI out there is a really good idea. I won't say my answers will be appropriate, or what you're looking for, but I'm willing to play And everyone else can jump in there, too. Don't think just because I gave an answer it lets the rest of you off the hook. Don't make me look like "GOD" lol.

LOL! Wow! You're quick, Tammy! Lovely response, too. I love those people that keep saying it's diabetes.

What a riot! I love the people that say so definitively "you have diabetes".
Interesting site. I played along (my ID is beynac, which is what I typically use on message boards and such).

You guys are so funny! You both sound so professional; I don't know who I'm going to choose. I might have to flip a coin.

I did a search on that site for fructose intolerance, and I couldn't believe some of the questions/responses out there. This one in particular was quite interesting: answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ak.duiNQ6x81fjXZNfdCResjzKIX;_ylv=3?qid=20070425201026AAcDeyQETA: I just had to cut and paste this response about fructose intolerance: Fructose is just sugar. Too much of ANYTHING will have a negative impact on the normal functioning of your body, but there doesn't seem to be any real mechanism for a specific "intolerance" of fructose. This is just more media hype. Remember, this is the same type of "information" that showed dozens of people die each year from injuries caused by seatbelts (though MILLIONS are saved).
Don't drink so much soda and there won't be a problem!

Hey Julie, you can just copy and paste your first answer to the second question. I think that fits. Only don't forget to put another plug in for this board, too.

I went to do my response to that 2nd question and someone wrote a serious novel - or cut and pasted from another site.
Wow!
ETA: I responded with another plug for our board.

Yeah, I think I have to pick that lady that posted a book as the winner. I mean, seriously, she could have thinned that post out a little.
At least it was another chance to put in a plug for the forum!

I've had too many people tell me that "Oh, you're so lucky! I'd love to have that!" when they hear that I can't eat sweets. I was going to post a comment on this guys blog and link him here, glad to see you did it for us. I was just thinking about how my perfect teeth have 7 fillings.

He sure did make it sound good, didn't he? I really liked your response you posted.
Regina does actually have very good teeth. Of course she was DX so early that she didn't throw it all up all the time to wear her enamel off. Other than cleaning, the only dental work she's ever needed was when she fell and broke 4 of them off. ouch. And her brushing habits are not what they should be. It's a constant battle / reminding her thing.

I would have kept writing on that guys post-but it was late, and I was tired-sarah's heard the same thing Colormist has--"you are so lucky"-I make those people list their favorites-usually all those foods are off limits. I can't wait for that guy to respond.
Sarah got diagnosed young too-like Regina-age 12--but until then she throw-up all the time and even later-b/c she ate pizza and birthday cake to fit in--until her parents stopped letting her go to parties.
Also, her uncle is a children's dentist and he has noticed a lot of decay in children's teeth--probably b/c of the prevalance of all dextrose candies.

Okay, I'll give the guy a LITTLE credit. He makes some interesting points in his article about fructose. And for the teeth thing, I do think GENERALLY speaking that people with HFI have good teeth. Of course there are exceptions, but we had a thread discussing this awhile back, and there was a research study on HFI'ers that did find that generally they had healthier teeth than non-HFIers. In support of that, my brother and I both have never had a cavity (knock on wood). As for his comment on having HFI as a "gift from the heavens", yes, that was just plain silly. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, and for every person who tells me "well if they could bottle that and sell it....", I try to set them straight on how difficult life with HFI can be. Of course, the general population has NO CLUE and never will. To them it's a "can't eat sweets" mentality and sure, from the outside looking in, what a deal! I mean, shoot, my father-in-law STILL doesn't get it, and I've been married to his son for 10 years. It's just an incredibly tough concept to grasp unless you're walking in those shoes. So, I guess I'll cut the guy a little slack. Please don't throw me under the bus.

Wow, the guy replied and is a tad snarky. He's a bit self-centered, too (upon reading the right column of his blog). I guess all his articles make him sound like a royal a**hat, then.

I read his response-I knew I should have been more mean in my response, but it was late, I was tired, and I wanted to reply quickly. I might have more time next week to write a long, nasty response- I love conflict---I find it hard that he eats at restaurants to stay social with friends--like he expects us to believe he has friends On a seperate note-Happy Birthday Colomist

Thank you Mike/Sarah. I don't think that guy has friends, either. I didn't think you were trying to be mean in your response at all, which is why I was so surprised with his overly brash response. Meh, personally, it's not worth the effort. I mean, as far as he knows, you never even saw he responded. Right now he just looks like a jerk.
