I found this organic, sugar free sunflower seed butter though my food allergy parents group. I don't know if I'm comparing apples to apples but it appears that according to nutrition data, it should have less sugar than natural peanut butter. Thoughts? www.sunbutter.com/products.asp#5

I like sunflower seeds better than peanuts. I don't know if that helps at all... Peanuts do tend to make me sick if I eat too many of them. I haven't had that problem with sunflower seeds.

Ditto everything Colormist said. I don't due well with peanuts and usually stay away from them completely. I do like sunflower seeds but don't usually have them in large quantities. The sunbutter sounds interesting. It may be a good substitution for peanut butter if it has less fructose.

Great news!! We will now put sunflower seeds on our "to try" list.
Regina is doing great with the peanuts. We just spent over a week at my mom's, and peanuts were a great help on the plane and all week long. She ate a ton of them with no problems.
So, peanuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, What about pecans?

My brother LOVES pecans (he also has HFI). He calls them Peck-ans. They have a very vague sweet taste to them, but nothing repulsive. They probably have more sugar in them than most, but they don't seem to affect him any (but he's also not on the diet). I guess, in serving-size quantities, they wouldn't be too bad.

Nate eats peanuts, sunflower seeds and sometimes pistachios. I've never let him try pecans because they taste sweet even to me and I can't imagine that they would be OK in any substantial quantity. On pistachios I limit him to a small handful and very infrequently, but really have nothing but a gut feeling on whether they are OK or not.
I bet sunflower seed butter would taste yummy.
On another note, he tried Joseph's SF chocolate chip cookies (just a couple) and so far no issues. Hooray! Maybe the chocolate issues are a thing of the past?! Wouldn't that be nice? It has been 2 years since he had chocolate last.

All my fingers and toes are crossed here for you Lisa. It's sooooooo nice for the kids to be able to have chocolate.
