OK someone asked about the UK so here goes..
KFC is OK for me (unlike Mac D's where almost everything makes me feel sick! Including the sweet smell that fills the places. YUK!)
The KFC Original and Zinger is fine watch out for the Mayo and all sides are off I'm afraid. Their Hot and spicy stuff is good too!
Now people asked about restaurants! I have eaten out at quite a lot of them both in the UK and in Europe so here is a list of things to ask for and watch out for.
Almost any Steak type PUB food will have plenty on the menu we can eat.
Avoid Barbecue or smoky sauces, best to avoid all for a first visit then try everyone else's to see if it is OK.. (a good reason for not eating any type of sugar ever (except for Lactose in Milk) is the ability to taste the dam stuff in doses low enough to do damage.
I still occasionally get caught out but only slightly.
Avoid anything with Leaks or Onion as Leaks are just pure poison and the onion will not be cooked well enough to make it safe.
I tend to avoid all the pies and be careful with the gravy, most places will put the water from the boiled veg into the gravy and this will ruin a good meal!
Most fish is good although Scampi is usually served in a very sweet batter, avoid.
If you happen to be eating in a decent restaurant particularly with a "NAMED" Chef (Gary Rhodes, Anthony Warrel Thompson, etc) if when you book your table you mention the diet problem they are usually very very good at describing the dishes that you can eat or tell you the ingredients they use in each dish.
I have had no problems with them at all.
OK takeaway food!
Pizzas Yes! Ask for it to me made "white" with no tomato base and chose the ingredients you like, any fish, sausage, chicken ground beef, cheese, olives.. etc.. mmm getting hungry thinking of it!
Avoid anything that sounds messed around with.. anything which has added flavour will almost certainly have Sugar added!
Pasta restaurants are good! obviously avoid the tomato otherwise most is good just ask the waiter.
Chinese is a problem! I ask for them to especially make a meal for me without sugar, most are able to do this it may take a little longer for my meal to arrive but i can eat without worry.
Indian food (form the Subcontinent of INDIA) and also Pakistan HALAL food
OK I can eat some but very limited amounts. Tandoori Chicken is good I just pick what I can eat form the salad and leave the rest.
Most curries are made form a base of mushed up softened onion so is not good at all! if you find a genuine restaurant (like AL Saleem's of Turnpike Road London) then you are in for a real treat!
Most places make Nan breads very sweet others make them just plain as they should be so are very good.
NEVER be afraid to ask or send food back when they "forget" and smother a lovely meal with Baked beans for example! I just cannot wipe off enough of the stuff to make it edible so back it goes.
For 10 years I had an expense's account and had to entertain customers out for meals (a nasty job but someone has to do it
)
So I got to find the genuine places where they will adapt a meal for me or know enough about the food they serve to advise well.
The best way to try eating out is with one or 2 good friends.
So if you find the meal you have bought is not good then they will swap with you, however it is best to check it first before eating half the meal and then asking to swap!
I will list the way to eat your way round Europe and most other places in another posting when It is not early in the morning and I have to be up for work!
Enjoy and do not be afraid!
If in doubt find the shortest route to the toilets so you can get rid of a nasty sweet mouthful in private (or the whole meal if you have really been caught out!)
Keep smiling ;D
Bill A.
PS green things I can eat!
Watercress
Mustard and Cress
Celery
Soft Round lettuce, Oak leaf and the red versions are fine, Iceberg and Cos type are not!
Cucumber (although new varieties are very sweet so be careful!)
Raw onion in the form of and Shallots, spring onions are fine.
Avoid dressings as they use balsamic vinegar which is nasty sweet stuff.
Green cabbage with all the storks cut out
Spinach (again no storks)
Fennel bulbs and the green fonds are nice chopped up and eaten raw.
NO SPROUTS (YUKKY! ) well I supost I can eat the leaves from round the outside of a sprout or 2 but not 3!
Why ruin a good meal by trying to force eat somthing not nice?
