Thanks a million for your cake suggestions and receipe. I will be trying it out on April 6. Only problem is I am having a hard time finding Jello sugar free pudding. I live in Ontario, where do you live, and all I can find in the stores is Fat-Free Jello. I tried that in the chocalte cookie receipe but Nicholas would not eat it. Perhaps it is only available in the states. If so, let me no what you think, I can make a run to Buffalo. We only live about 1 hr. from Buffalo. What store would you recommend me going to in the states?

I tried a few receipes this week and Nicholas would not eat them. The girls loved them, Cheeseburger pie and potatoe and meat cassorole (can't off hand remember the exact name). Nicholas is SOOOO cautious about anything he puts in his mouth. I tried to explain to him the receipe comes from a girl with the same sugarless diet as you, etc. etc. Although he was interested to hear about your daughter he still would not eat the meal

Any suggestions?!

Nicholas also is extremely healthy, has never been on antibiotics, cold remedies or anything. Just a few weeks ago he got a bad cold and his fever went up to 105 degrees (AHHH) so I had to give him 1/2 tylenol. That was the first time ever he has had that.. Although it was cleared through the Metabolic Dr. at sick kids I was a little nervous about giving it to him. What do you give your daughter. The vitamins I was asking you about was because I feel that because of the restricted diet that he is lacking in vitamins. Has that ever been the case with your daughter.

How is your daughters liver. Do they test it? Nicholas does have some scarring on his liver from the initial onset of his disorder. His liver numbers are normal now but they do an ultrasound on it every year to make sure the scarring has not progressed. Do they do that for your daughter.

I hope I am not bothering you with my questions? IT is such a relieve to speak to someone who has been dealing with it for 20 years. I worry about long term effect for Nicholas. I have so many questions for you, I hope you don't mind, I appreciate your help!

Hi Janine,
Sorry I didn't answer this sooner, but I am on vacation, visiting my mother in Phoenix, Arizona. what wonderful weather here. I hate to go back to the cold in Pennsylvania tomorrow, but reality calls.

Regina does well on tylenol, also she can take Motrin (Advil has sugar) and Bayer asprin. Antibiotics are a little tricky. All penicillians have a sugar base. There are a few that are ok, but I don't have a list here with me. There are a few cold remedy things, I'll get you a list later.

They do check her liver about every year or so. It is doing fine.

I'm not sure how to get Nicholas to try new things. Regina is very trusting of me. If I tell her something is ok, she'll try it. I guess the trick will be to get him to try one thing first so he can see it is ok. What happens if he would eat something? Regina gets terribly sick. Maybe he'll try the cake, or pudding or something for his birthday, and that'll let hiim try other things.

We get the sugar free pudding at any store that sells the regular pudding here. Wal-Mart supercenter, or any grocery store sells it.

When Regina first started this diet, we were concerned about the vitamin aspect of it, also. We used to put "Fruit-Fresh" on her oatmeal in the mornings because it is vitamin C. I haven't checked it in awhile, but that is all they used to have in it. She doesn't really take anything now. We are always on the lookout for a multivitamin, but haven't ever found one that works for her. But her bloodwork always come back good, so I guess she doesn't really need it.

I actually enjoy your questions. It gives me a chance to talk about it, also. It also is making me remember some of the things I've forgotten. Regina's birthday is also in April (20) and I will probably decorate her cake with colored cream cheese. I did this before, but kind of forgot about it. (A little food coloring, cream cheese in a plastic bag with the corner cut off, and I have a pastry bag to write with)

I have some more recipes to give you. So I'll start adding some again next week. I'm glad they are helping.

I am about a 5 hour drive from Buffalo. Maybe sometime we can get together in person. Please let me know how the cake comes out!

How did you make out with Nicholas's birthday? Were you able to find any pudding? Did you get him to try anything new? I was just wondering.
