I've been eating a lot more oatmeal lately (trying to eat healthy), but it's getting so blah. I usually just sprinkle some salt on top. Any other ideas to dress it up? I half considered putting a pixie stick on top this morning, but I just couldn't do it. I suppose it's the closest thing to brown sugar.
Please help me get out of my breakfast boredom.

I use a little butter with my oatmeal. I've never tried a pixie stick. I also cook grits, cream of rice and steel-cut/Irish oatmeal to keep from getting tired of the same thing.

I came really close to buying some steel cut oatmeal after I realized that my shredded wheat was $4 a box. Sadly, the oatmeal was $6 a canister. I couldn't bring myself to pay so much. I had oatmeal this morning. It was very blah. I usually make mine with milk. I was tempted to try a pixie stix. I think a red one would work best. I never thought of butter. Cinnamon might spice it up a bit. Cream of rice/wheat is the best! It's like a big bowl of milk. :q Mush is also good (similar to polenta) but it takes forever to make (AND isn't healthy!!!) Regina eats her oatmeal with Equal and milk. That makes me think your pixie stick would be just dandy on it. Some people around here put cinnamon and nutmeg in it. Another option would be the maple flavoring with a little glucose or pixie stick. If anyone has made any of the rhubarb jelly posted on here, that would also work.

I also like Cream of Wheat and Red River Cereal. Have you ever tried that? I like Cream of Wheat, but it doesn't seem to fill me up like oatmeal. I haven't heard of Red River Cereal. Is it similar to cream of wheat? I do like the taste of oatmeal, but I get burned out on it fast.

I second Fred. Put stuff on your oatmeal? Where's the world coming to? :-) Me and my daughter eat oatmeal porridge every other day with just a bit of milk. I make it with rolled oats, not instant stuff, but we only have to cook it for five minutes or so. I've heard some people putting jam on it, but it's not that common over here.
Once or twice a week we eat semolina porridge for variety. With that we have a little cinnamon and then milk. Yummy, but not quite as filling.
Once a year or so I try to diversify my porridge and make it with rye (similar flakes as with oats, haven't found a translated term for it - would you call it rolled rye?) but I don't like it as much so I rarely make it more than three or four times before I tire of it.
