I am having serious issues with exercise. I thought I was just lazy (which maybe I still am), but was curious after reading about diabetes (as it's the most remotely similar popular condition) and exercise.
When I exercise, I get really, really, really tired. Fall down and go to sleep, tired. I thought this was normal until I talked to other people about exercise. Apparently exercise is supposed to give you endorphins that make you feel good and wake you up.
Diabetics also have to worry about hypoglycemia and control their blood sugar when they're excercising. I haven't even considered that my hypoglycemia might have an effect on my body while working out. I wonder if a home-made pixie-stick energy drink while working out would be better than my standard bottle of water.
Has anyone else considered this or had similar side effects to exercising?

That is interesting. Since Regina is handicapped, she really can't do much in the way of exercising. She does use the pool in the summer, but since she can't swim, she mostly kind of floats around. But when her brother or someone else is in with her, I would call that a good workout. She really doesn't seem any different after. So she doesn't really have your same kind of affect.
Now me, even though I'm "normal" (although my brother would differ with anyone calling me normal in any way. <grin>) I Get the same kind of tired that you do. If I do drag my lazy behind to the treadmill, I do it shortly before I get ready for bed because after that all I will do is sit.
Fred, which way do you go? What about anyone else?

Colormist,
Have you had your thyroid checked? I was also getting very tired, especially during exercise last year (age 27 then). It turns out my thyroid was overactive–after I started meds, my energy level went up, and I lost about 6 pounds in less than two weeks–at the same time, I was running several times a week, training for a 5K. I know that diabetics have thyroid problems as well. Try eating something hearty, like oatmeal, an hour before you work-out. I did notice that when I was jogging about 5 times per week (usually for about 20-30 minutes), that after a few weeks, my energy level did go up, and my hyperglycemia was under much better control. After about 3 months I did lose about 20 pounds (12% of my weight), from the heaviest I’ve ever weighed (too much cheese during my French vacation and a desk job)
I’ve used those glucose tabs before exercise.

I haven't had my thyroid checked. It never crossed my mind. I'll have to look into it when my benefits kick in again (just changed a job and don't have health insurance until May). Even the thought of jogging makes me want to go to sleep right now.

Hi
This exercise thing is soooooo interesting i just thought my 3 yr old toddler had a 30 min clock inside, We stopped the gym activity for toddlers because at 45 mins she was in a screaming heap.
The swim class at 30 mins she tolerates and is ok if i feed her b4 and then again straight after but if i let her linger and play on its a big heap again. She is learning because now she comes out of the water asking for food.
My relief arrived in the post 2 days ago and she loves them. It's a little sad when your kid tells you she loves you every time you hand her a lolly [sweetarts are wonderful].
The maltitol in the choc wafer turned out a dissappoinment i haven't let her try it because on the back of the packet under the join/fold there was a yellow box it read there is only 0.5g of sucrose used in this product. The company hasent even seen it because they list every thing on their site and this was missed. Oh Well Sweetarts still rock
Regards Kerryn

Just an update on exercising.
I've started jogging (second-most-pathetic-jogger-ever) with my pug (MOST-pathetic-jogger-ever) and I'm really liking it. I'm slow and I always make sure to eat a half-hour before I jog. I usually go home and eat something small afterwards, too. Thankfully, my pug is slower, so I have an excuse to slow down (even more so) and yell back at her to motivate her. LOL
Now to just get my husband to jog with me!

So if you ever talk your husband into joining you, does this mean you'll be able to move up to the rank of third-most-pathetic-jogger-ever and allow your pug to become the second-most-pathetic-jogger-ever?
