Hi! I found this board a few days ago and decided to join. I am a Swedish 38 year old that have HFI. I am told there are about 100 (known) cases of HFI here in Sweden so we aren't many and I don't know anyone else with this condition. Therefore it's nice to see posts from other people with similar concerns. I was diagnosed when I was 3 years old. My mother went through hell trying to take me from hospital to hospital to find a diagnosis for me and only being told that I wouldn't live longer than a couple of years and no-one knew what was wrong. The diagnosis was finally made in the old horrible way of injecting a sugar-solution and monitoring the resulting vitals - is that what is called a fasting fructose test? In the 90's I also had a genetic test made in order to see which genetic mutation I had and it turned out I have two different mutations. I have a daughter that was tested when she was 6 months old (at my request) and she does not have HFI. I am happy to say that she so far eats almost everything! A nice comfort to someone who knows the difficulties an enforced diet can mean. :-) Anyway, happy to be here and will continue to browse through the posts... Millan

Thank you for the welcome.
Oh, yes, I have a strong aversion to (almost) all sweet things. If you do as well you know that this does pose a slight problem with the amount of things you can eat/drink since there actually exist some things with sweeteners that we can tolerate but still has the very sweet taste of things we can't tolerate. I've never understood this, I want to have a soft drink that DOESN'T taste sweet, an ice-cream WITHOUT any sweeteners at all, and so on. Annoying, to say the least. :-( I do eat some things that aren't really allowed - but in small amounts. For instance I sometimes treat myself to a small piece of 86% chocolate or a couple of blueberries mixed in my yogurt in the summer, but otherwise I think I'm fairly strict in my diet.
Thanks again for the warm welcome. Millan

Hi Millan Good to see new members come aboard. We've been dealing with my daughters HFI for some time now, but we're always on the lookout for new ideas. I'm sorry it took me so long to welcome you, but I was off enjoying the sunshine at my mothers house. Now I'm back in the cold and trying to catch up with all the old routine. I'm glad you decided to join. Tammy
