James has just had a terrible ear infection and I was really concerned that I couldn't find any safe pain relief. There was lots of useful information under "medicine cabinet" thread, but no names I recognised available in the UK.
In case this helps anyone our pharmacist helped me obtain:
Paracetamol suppositories. (on prescription in UK. Over the counter in other parts of Europe).
Soluble Disprol (paracetamol so don't use with other paracetamol products) for children 6months to 12 years. Contains maltodextrin and lime flavour (safe according to our dietitian)
Film coated Ibuprofen tablet (contains lactose). Available over the counter. (Got mine from Boots). This is an adult tablet so check dosage with pharmacist. James (10 months) needed 1/4 tablet so I ground one tablet, dissolved it in 10ml of water and gave him 2.5ml of the solution using a medicine syringe.
Being able to use the Ibuprofen alongside the paracetamol was an absolute blessing because he was in so much pain and you can only give a limited amount of paracetamol in 24hrs.
If you are going to use, make sure you check with your pharmacist the dosage for your child.
Hope this is useful. Any more info on safe children's medicines gratefully appreciated!

With the cold and flu season here, I just purchased a decongestiant that is Fructose Free. It is Diabetic Tussin. I found it at walgreens. I had it last fall in the 6+ version but, now they have a kids 2-6 years too. I have been using it for my 1 year old this week to drain his cold. I hope to avoid any more ear infections. In the past I hated to give them decongestiant because they all have sugar.
