I just went to the sushi place next door for lunch. I don't really like sushi, but since I don't really have much of a choice in what I eat, I tend to eat anything that doesn't make me sick. Deciding to test my luck, I tried the "soy sauce", which was not soy sauce. Or at least, not the salty soy sauce that I'm use to. It took me a few rolls to figure out that the sweet taste was not in the sushi, but rather the soy sauce. I stopped eating it, but ended up sick less than an hour later. I was munching on smarties to get my dextrose to balance out the nausea, but they weren't working. I had mentioned to my coworker how green tea tends to detox my system from the sugar. She recommended I go get some green tea from the breakroom to see if it would work. It did. I don't know if it was the mixture of dextrose and green tea, but nary 15 minutes later, I noticed I wasn't nearly as nauseated as before. Has anyone else tried green tea instead of glucose to get rid of the queasies? In other news, if you're in need of guaranteed fructose-free foods when you're out on the town, Japanese/sushi places are pretty much sugar free. The rolls are pretty bland without soy sauce, but they are edible. Miso soup is good, too.

Ahhhh, so the rice is made with sugar! I was wondering how they got it to stick together like that. The odd part is, it doesn't taste sweet. I'll have to look into it.

If you do a google search for sushi rice recipes you'll see they use sugar and rice-vinegar--which also has sugar. I'm guessing the vinegar nuetralizes the taste of the sugar.
You seem to be an expereinced cook, perhaps you can figure out a way to make it. I tried, but couldn't get the same sticky-consistency.
