Unsure = Avoid...that said, I was wondering if there are any suggestions or definite no-no's to particular types of brewed tea. I have seen references here that indicate that regular black and green tea are OK, but I'm looking for some variety. Does anyone know how the processing of tea affects possible fructose/sorbitol levels? E.g., do teas made with lemon or orange rinds still contain sorbitol? After reading the "are lemon peels okay?" posts, I'm guessing that nobody really knows... Or has anyone had experience to share with flavored teas? Of particular interest to me: peppermint, ginger, lemon grass, cloves, licorice root, anise, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom, allspice, vanilla bean. (I know Tammy says 'no' to allspice and cinnamon gets pretty general approval...) Does anyone know of particular brands that should be avoided or recommended? I hesitate even at our most "trusted" stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joes... I apologize if this type of question has been answered in other threads - I may have looked through them too quickly...thanks in advance for any help! mary in az

Thanks, Kristen - that already helps a lot! I have developed an aversion to trying fruit flavors unless I already know I can handle them (like sugar-free jello). I have some unopened tea with lemon or orange peels that I bought before I went the strict HFI route in May 2006 . Now I'm more confident about which ones to keep - like the peppermint and chai tea. BTW, what the heck is "orange pekoe" in tea??? And, what about the "nuttier" teas and coffees, e.g. almond, hazelnut, etc? I don't allow any nuts or legumes in my diet, but now I am just plain curious!!! Will certainly post anything I might learn along the way from other sources in case anyone else is curious... mary in az

I've only ever given Regina plain ole tea, and not much of that. She's not big on flavors, so I've never played around with them. I agree with both you and Kristen with just checking the rest of the ingredients, and go from there. Regina does fine with both peppermint and spearmint,(she has these daily in her antacid/calcium tablets) so they would probably make a good tea.
I really never thought about what orange pekoe is, but I imagine that is what my plain ole tea is. lol.

I drink Celestial Seasonings Decaf Green Tea and Peppermint tea and have been doing fine with both. I am glad that you brought up the question because I have been trying to find new teas to add to the mix- I am getting a bit burned out on these 2. If I find any, I'll post them too.

Just my 2 penny worth.
I can drink any tea bar the fruit teas mostly on taste I do not like the fruit /sweet taste so cannot comment on their sucrose / sorbitol content.
Pepermint tea is GREAT when the old IBS is rummbling around!

I second Bill's comment. I drink just about any tea available. Even Nestea on accident (which tastes horrid, but I have no side effects to it). I love Bigelow's vanilla-caramel & vanilla chai teas. I have yet to have a side effect with any bagged tea. It's those bottled ones you have to worry about.

I drink lots and lots of green tea with no problems, I also enjoy earl grey tea, and orange pekoe.
The nice thing about brewed tea is that if you aren't sure whether you can have it just make yourself a really weak cup to start off with and see how your body reacts.

I am an enthusiastic tea-drinker. While I don't like any sweet taste in my food, I have always loved (and tolerated even large amounts of) black tea with most kinds of berry flavours. My absolute favourites are tea that thastes of strawberry, raspberry or blueberry. I also drink tea flavoured with cinnamon, elder, cardamon and chai tea.
I don't like most "fruity" teas because they taste too sweet. Some fruit-teas are ok for me, though. Orange, bloodgrape, rhubarb and some apple flavoured teas have been nice.
Red and white tea works for me, but I don't like green tea, and if there's only earl grey available I'd rather have a glass of water. :-)
Oh, and I don't make tea from tea-bags (at home anyway), I think the taste is more artificial than when I make "real tea", i.e. loose tea.
