ok, i'm once again very confused!! my mother joined tuesdays club on foodintol.com so i could get the info they had on fructose intolerance. i printed off their 31 page allowed and non-allowed foods. sucrose, along with numerous other things that i thought was a no-no, is allowed. isn't sucrose, which they also refer to as white sugar, table sugar?? they also give a list of certain fruits that are allowed, but only allowed for small usage (once a week). if i can figure out how to get all the info on here then i will........computer wiz i am not....haha. has anyone else joined that site?

*their list of allowed foods is basically what i have, they are just more specific on what to use/eat and how often to use/eat it. they also go into detail about the sugar alcohols.

Laurie, Rule #1. Don't, ever, EVER EVER believe what someone posts on ANY web site. (including this one, including from me). ALWAYS check with your Dr. DO NOT believe someone who says, "oh, that'll be fine".
Rule #2. ALWAYS let your Dr have the final say.
The biggest confusion is between DFI and HFI. They are 2 very different problems, and the diets are similar, but not compatable with each other.
I'm guessing foodintol is using the list for DFI. And never forget......most people mean well, they just don't understand, and unfortunately, some think it's funny to give wrong answers. They don't know, or worse, don't care that it's peoples health that is affected. Always use a little common sense and don't take any advice blindly. Tammy

ok, i got a reply back from hunter's dietician.........this is what she sent first...
This is something that I found on the internet and looks to be a reputable source ie - MD affiliated. I would not allow any sucrose the diet. Their rational for use in the tuesday club does not make any sense at all. I will look further into the peanuts - I have in some places it is ok and some places it is not. How is he doing when he does eat the peanuts, ect. Is he having symptoms? Jen

Based on everything I have looked at peanuts are fine. I'm beginning to think that the food intol site where you are getting this information from is questionable. All the other diets I have looked at are associated with a medical university or physician. I hope this helps and I'm sorry about telling you about that site orginally. Jen
i am just so confused. maybe it's just from getting so much information at one time and expecting to get everthing right and know what i'm doing right away. i knew you all would be a better judge of all that info than me. just call me a panicked mother, i used to feel comfortable in my "mother" shoes, now i'm so scared i'll get something wrong and it will end up hurting hunter. i'm glad i found you guys!! good luck keeping me straight though..........haha

Nate's GI Doc said that if someone was fructose intolerant then they were automatically sucrose intolerant so I can't imagine that that website is even saying sucrose is OK for DFI. Sugar was the first thing we stopped (months before the diagnosis) to see if that would help any. (Just to clarify, Nate has been diagnosed as FI and we haven't identified it as dietary or hereditary yet. We are following the HFI diet to be safe.)

hi i have also joined the food intol web site and am also confused about what to eat i am from Australia i have fructose malabsobtion our doctor /dietician who studies fructose/lactose and ceoliac disease has given me a diet she says no wheat flour apples pears mango watermelon onion or springonion or any onion family also many other foods .The food intol says you can eat spring onion and leeks also lettuce 2 times a week i didnt know lettuce has sugar in it also if you follow food intol plan ther wouldnt be much to eat and like would be boring

I have also heard the same things about wheat being high in fructose as well as those fruits. I am not sure about leeks though.

Hi,
I think they care mostly about DFI there. Many doctors say sucrose is ok with DFI as the glucose helps to transport the fructose from the intestine lumen into the blood. They also say that for this reason all the fruit and veggie that contain more glucose than fructose would be ok, and that one can also make fructose containing meals more tolerable when you add glucose/dextrose to it (stray dextrose over the melon...).
From what I read and hear from other DFI peolpe this all is true for about one third of them, but two third do not tolerate sucrose and for them also the compensation of fructose by adding glucose does not work. I can have two full spoons of dextrose added to a small zuccini and it does not help at all.
For you here as HFI people I think all these tables are not worth very much. Although while adding glucose to a fructose containing meal may prevent or soften the hypoglycemia, you will still have the fructose in your blood which can not be degraded by your liver and will cause cirrhosis over time.
