Hi all,
Recently I was advised by my dietitian that I was not getting enough fibre and that this is to be expected for someone on my diet. She advised me to switch as many of the breads and pastas that I eat to whole wheat provided that I could find sugar free alternatives.
Was that ever difficult!
I was amazed at how hard it was to find a brand of whole wheat bread that did not add either sugar or honey to their recipes.
Finally I stumbled upon a bakery here in Toronto called "Cobs Bread" (http://www.cobsbread.com/) where the majority of their products are sugar-free. The downside is that they are kindof expensive and don't have very many locations outside of Canada. However, since they do list the ingredients to all of their products online you might be able to get some ideas for new recipes.
I have also found whole wheat breads at Whole Foods Market that are sugar free, but again they are somewhat on the expensive side.

I gave up on buying my own bread a long while ago. I had my mother-in-law get me a bread maker for Christmas. Now I just make a loaf every other week. Those store-bought varieties are just TOO expensive! (Or I'm just too cheap, either way.) Now I'm just working on perfecting the recipes. The best part is, you can make most types of bread and just substitute Dextrose instead of sugar. EDIT: Also wanted to add if you're having problems with fiber, I recommend a big bowl of Shredded Wheat for breakfast. That would pretty much cover you for your daily fiber intake.

Hey Colormist, I have shredded wheat almost every day!! But unfortunately it only has about 16% of the reccomended daily amount of fibre (based on the label on the box)

I'm beginning to think that it is impossible to get all the dietary recommendations in as regular meals. That one bowl of cereal constitutes as 1/3 of my food intake for the day! There's no way I could eat more fiber than that (I probably get around 28% in my bowl). I don't even want to think of what more fiber would do to me! lol
