Does this mean I do not have HFI? I think I have all of the lifelong signs.

I assume you have had a "23 and ME" genetic test? That will not say you have HFI but that you are at best a carrier of one gene mutation that may indicate HFI. All the "23 and me" genetic test will say is you might be HFI it will never say yes. IF you have the life long signs and eating a fructose free diet helps you then you have HFI simple as that. There are many novel genetic errors that can trigger HFI although I believe we all need at least two errors to definably "prove" HFI. New genetic errors that can cause HFI are being found all the time some are so rare as to only be found present in one person! A recent study in France discovered 6 new ones! out of a sample of only 160 people suspected of having HFI. Contrary to almost all dietary advice the HFI diet is actually a wonderfully healthy diet. The only vitamin we are short of is vitamin C, which is easily sorted. Folic Acid can be an issue, particularly for ladies of child bearing age this is important, if a full range of meats and strong B vitamin foods like yeast extract or red meats are not being eaten. A common miss conception is the nutrient value of Vegetables. they are typically 95 to 98% water while the analysis of their nutrient value is based on dry matter which makes up only 2 to 5% of the vegetable. This is why an 8OZ (235g) rump beef steak will hold more iron than over 1.5 kilo of spinach! Keep smiling
