I knew this was safe, but it's so expensive that I don't usually purchase it (especially with the beverage tax). It's La Croix sparkling water in cans. They have several different flavors: cran-raspberry, berry, lime, lemon, original, and orange. It kind of makes me REALLY thirsty after drinking it, but then I don't usually drink carbonated beverages. I picked up two 12-packs at my local grocery for $6 (+2.40 in pop tax, + 6% food tax). They have a website: www.lacroixwater.com

Laura, do the flavored drinks taste sweet? Does it have aspartame in them? I couldn't find specifics on the site.
I'm thinking I probably wouldn't like it if it tastes sweet, but I am curious about it.

The ingredients are: carbonated water, natural flavor They don't taste sweet at all. It's kind of like lemon Perrier, but it's in a can and comes in more flavors. Up near Canada we have Faygo sparkling water (no sweeteners), Canada Dry sparkling water (again, no sweeteners) and Perrier. I figure the only thing you should definitely have down there is Perrier. I usually get Faygo (cheapest), but it only comes in 2 liters. It's not sweet at all. It's like squeezing some lemon juice from those lemon-shaped containers into your carbonated water. I've tried the berry kind and haven't had problems with it, either, so I don't think there's any fructose in it. The only one that's iffy might be Orange. I'd think Orange would have the most fructose-per-capita. Unless they used the orange flavoring that they use for pixie stix, then all would be good. Here are some other unsweetened sparkling waters. You can order Faygo online. www.faygo.com/ (has additional cherry & grapefruit flavors) www.usa.perrier.com/Canada Dry's website is out there, but doesn't mention the sparkling water line.

Colormist, I was just wondering if you are still drinking the La Croix? I noticed on your list on your blog that you mentioned only Metromint waters. I am starting to be able to tolerate small amounts of fresh lime/lemon but think I had reaction to the LaCroix. I wonder if it is because they use a more concentrated form of fructose? On their website it said they use "fruit essence", who knows what that is! I also completely failed on trying diet sodas, unfortunately, it must again be the natural flavors because I can tolerate aspertame. Aww, drink options so limited Serene

I do still drink La Croix in moderation. I don't buy cases of it or anything, but I will go and purchase a 2-liter every 6 months or so. I still prefer Metromint, because I like the choco-mint and other mint flavors (I steer clear of the fruit/mint flavors).
I had some bad luck with another type of fruit essence drink. It was strawberry essence and I noticed I had a slight reaction after drinking a bottle. I've just been staying away from them since that incident. I notice the older I get, the most sensitive I become and the more I restrict my diet.

Laura, Lemon Perrier has fructose in it.. as an added ingredient.. so far as I can remember.. i tried a can once.. got an instant reaction to it. I suspect the Le Croix will also "flavours" on the label are a dead give away.. normally this is a way of hiding HFCS or Fructose. At a guess its at a level below what you are used to handling.. therefore you will not notice it.
